Volume 9, Issue 7

February 16, 2024

THIS SUNDAY: February 18, 2024

1 Lent

Genesis 9:8-17

With the catastrophe of the Flood, God hits the “reset” button by, in essence, starting a new second act of Creation. God makes a promise to Noah and his children that God will never again use a flood to destroy the earth. God’s promise of this is the rainbow, which is both a sign of vibrant hope as well as assurance of God’s protection symbolized by the shape of the rainbow in the form of an archer’s bow.

1 Peter 3:18-22

Peter asserts that Jesus’ offering of himself on the Cross and his resurrection have reconciled both those alive at that time as well as those who had passed away before Christ’s crucifixion. The gift of Jesus to humanity is a clean slate with God and the opportunity to live life with a renewed conscience.

Mark 1:9-15

After a time of testing in the desert lasting 40 days, Jesus kicks off his earthly ministry, calling the opportunity for people to be reconciled to God "Good News."
