2 Lent

Genesis 17:1-7, 15-16

God makes an everlasting covenant with Abraham and Sarah. God promises this elderly couple that they will be the ancestors of nations, though they do not yet have any child together. God will miraculously bring forth new life from Sarah’s womb. The name changes of Abraham and Sarah emphasize the firmness of God’s promise.

Romans 4:16-25

Paul presents Abraham as the example for how a person comes into a right relationship with God not through what they do, but through their trust in God. Though Abraham and Sarah were far too old for bearing children, Abraham trusted that God would fulfill God’s promise to give them many descendants.

Mark 8:31-39

While our salvation is a free love gift from God, our journey of discipleship is a costly one. Jesus is on his way to offer his life in Jerusalem, and he wants to prep his disciples to expect to pay a cost for putting God first in their lives.

Mahalo to our Wonderful Servants!

Reflection for Ash Wednesday and

Burning of the Palm Crosses

It is a tradition here at All Saints that we use our old palm crosses from previous years and burn them into ashes to be used for our Ash Wednesday service. We thank you all for bringing your old Palm Crosses to church.

The Altar Guild members were asked this year to do the burning and Thank God for our wonderful John Hanaoka who shared his expertise and knowledge with us so that we may learn a new experience. It was so interesting to see the transition of the palm crosses, burst into flames (a blaze of glory from Palm Sunday) and in less than 30 seconds they turned into ashes.

As Kahu and Suzanne placed those ashes on our foreheads, we began our Lenten Season…the time to reflect on our faith and our religious discipline.

Monday Crew and Altar Guild

Welcome to our New Volunteers!

The Altar Guild and Monday Crew are so excited that we have two new volunteers that are willing to join us in serving our God. Pam Sokei has joined our Monday Crew and Mabel Antonio is now part of our Altar Guild. In this photo, they are making sure that the altar has been set up for our Ash Wednesday Eucharist.

Youth Group Clean Up Day!

Sunday, February 25

The All Saints Youth Group will clean up the Youth Room and get it ready for our meetings and activities! This will happen on Sunday, February 25, at 9:30-10:15am, instead of our regular meeting. All youth, please wear comfortable clothes. Please bring gloves and masks (if you have them). The leaders will bring some gloves and masks too, and we will bring lots of cleaning supplies.

If you know of any other youth who are interested in joining this or other Youth activities, please contact Kahu or one of the Youth Team (Faith, Carolyn, Jan, Mabel, Wayne, Ron or Alanna). We meet every Sunday at 9:30am. Hope to see you there!



Youth Group Mini Golf!

Saturday, March 9

Please save the date!! At our last meeting, the Youth Group decided that Saturday, March 9 would be a good day for mini-golf, when considering their spring break schedules.

We don't have any details yet, other than we hope to go to Anaina Hou Mini Golf. Please come to our Sunday Youth Group meetings to help plan more details about this outing. Hope to see you there!

EAM Young Adult Retreat

October 25-27, Camp Sloggett, Kōke'e

The Episcopal Asiamerica Ministry (EAM) Young Adult Convocation is holding a retreat for Episcopal young adults in their 20s from across the United States. This retreat will be held on the beautiful island of Kaua‘i in the mountains in the Kōke‘e area, from 1pm on Friday, October 25 to 1pm on Sunday, October 27. (We will meet/drop off in the Līhu‘e Airport area.)

The registration fee is $50 and will cover lodging, ground transportation and all meals. This retreat is limited to 24 young adults, so it is recommended that you register soon. [Participants are welcome to make their own arrangements to extend their stay either before or after the retreat and enjoy the beautiful island of Kaua‘i.]

Rev. Keleawe “Malcolm” Hee will be the keynote speaker. Carolyn Morinishi is organizing the retreat logistics, including registration, venue, ground transportation and food. Also on the schedule: team-building workshops, daily compline, meditation, hiking, a historical tour and two visits to the beach (weather permitting). Most importantly, you will be able to network with other Episcopalian Young Adults from across the country. Please contact Carolyn for more information and she will give you the registration link and more details.

All Saints' Youth Director

Position Open at All Saints

JOB POSTING: Youth Director will hold weekly meetings on Sundays at 9:30am-10:15am to help foster the spiritual development of our youth; must be current with Praesidium Safe Church training; will plan other special events, outings and service projects, keeping all permission forms for off-site activities current and in order; will be responsible for all communication with parents/guardians regarding the youth activities. Youth Programs at Camp Mokulē'ia

Spring and Summer programs available

There are exciting opportunities for your youth at Camp Mokulēʻia this spring and summer!

1. Diocesan Youth Retreat - This weekend retreat is for 6th -12th graders to come together for some fun while learning about how to grow in Christ and friendship with one another as our special guest speaker Erin Wolf guides us in conversations and games to discover the love of God, friends, and our community!
2. Counselor in Training Program - This PAID program gives 11th and 12th graders a fun and meaningful way to gain professional and life skills for college and future jobs. It runs over the months of June and July. Counselors in Training live at camp during camp sessions and go home on the weekends. 
3. Summer Camp - Registration is open for our 2024 Summer Camp season! We offer 4 different weeks of residential (sleep away) camp for campers who have finished 2nd-12th grade, 1 week of camp for young adults with special needs (ages 18-35), and 1 week of adventure camp for campers who have finished 6th - 8th.

Medical Equipment Loan Ministry

The Medical Equipment Loan Ministry (MEL) loans out and accepts donations of durable medical equipment including items such as walkers, transfer chairs, shower chairs, and more. If you or anyone you know is in need or would like to donate medical equipment, please call the church (808-822-4267) and they will forward your request.

Currently Hale Ho`omalu is only accepting monetary donations.

KŪPUNA SHOPPING ASSISTANCE MINISTRY

Any of our All Saints' kūpuna who need assistance with grocery shopping can contact Carolyn Morinishi at church@allsaintskauai.org to set up a delivery.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

Names can be added to the Prayers of the People petitions by using the Prayer Chain Request form or by contacting the Church Office at (808) 822-4267. Names will remain in the Prayers of the People for a maximum of four Sundays before a name must be resubmitted.
