TEDCO Portfolio Company Spotlight:

Attila Security, a leading provider of solutions that help governments and enterprise secure access to their networks and data, announced today that it has received an investment from TEDCO’s Maryland Venture Fund (MVF) .

TEDCO participated in Attila’s seed round, which was led by Fulton, MD-based DataTribe, and has now followed that up with a $750,000 investment by MVF in the company’s Series A round. Additional investors in the company include Bull City Venture Partners and Blu Venture Investors.

STEER Tech , a TEDCO Portfolio Company, Receives Award from Howard County Government

Howard County Government is working with local entrepreneurs like STEER Tech's CEO, Dr. Anuja Sonalker, to create a more innovative and efficient government. STEER Tech is currently working with the HCEDA to use the $30K grant to pilot autonomous vehicles to increase efficiency in our inspections process.

Light Point Security , TEDCO Portfolio Company, acquired by McAfee to Extend MVISION Unified Cloud Edge (UCE) Capabilities for Secure Access Service Edge (SASE)

McAfee, the device-to-cloud cybersecurity company, today announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Light Point Security, LLC , an award-winning pioneer of  browser isolation . Upon the close of the acquisition, the Light Point Security team will join McAfee.

Linshom Announces FDA Clearance of the Linshom Respiratory Monitoring Device (LRMD)

Linshom announced today U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance of the company’s first product, a small, non-invasive respiratory monitor that addresses the growing need for continuous respiratory monitoring for patients susceptible to respiratory depression and compromise. 

Fighting Acne: A New Approach Sourced From Viruses

Over 80% of adolescents and an increasing number of adults are affected by acne vulgaris—commonly known as “acne”—a skin condition caused by the Cutibacterium acnes bacteria (formerly Propionibacterium acnes). The  Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology Research  (IBBR) recently received a Technology Assessment award from the Maryland Innovation Initiative (MII), as part of the Innovation Commercialization Program at  TEDCO , to support work on a new approach to targeting C. acnes. IBBR Fellow Dr. Daniel Nelson (Associate Professor, Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Maryland, College Park) will lead the project.

Sensing an opportunity to improve wind energy: TEDCO's Maryland Innovation Initiative and bwtech help UMBC faculty commercialize their research

Wind turbines are massive, with a single turbine blade measuring up to 350 feet (about 110 meters), longer than the wingspan of some commercial airplanes. At its highest point, a blade can be 850 feet (260 meters) off the ground, almost reaching the height of Eiffel Tower. When UMBC engineer Soobum Lee looks up at these turbines, generating energy in fields and even offshore, he thinks about their size as an enormous opportunity, and also a challenge.

We hear from John Haverty who, after knee replacement surgery generated an unrelenting infection ... found himself facing amputation of his leg. Enter a new treatment called 'phage therapy' and Greg Merril, CEO and co-founder of  Adaptive Phage Therapeutics  in Gaithersburg. He explains how phages devour bacteria and the treatment that ultimately saved Haverty’s leg.

InferCabulary , a TEDCO portfolio company, won the LearnLaunch 2020 Pitch Competition

The visual vocabulary tool was awarded $25,000 in Google credit in recognition of its innovative approach as it moves into its next stage of growth.

TEDCO MII Awardee Russell Taylor one of two from The Johns Hopkins University named to National Academy of Engineering

Johns Hopkins chemical and biomolecular engineer  Yannis Kevrekidis  and computer scientist  Russell Taylor  have been named to the  National Academy of Engineering , a career distinction that recognizes the most accomplished engineers in the world. They are among 87 new members and 18 international members selected for the honor this year.
