Construction COVID-19 Guidelines

Ontario's Chief Prevention Officer, Ron Kelusky will present the new release of the Construction COVID19 Guidelines. The existing guidelines, released in May 2020, have been effective and with the experience amassed since then, the guidelines have been updated to reflect the industry best practices. It is vital that you are aware of the new expectations.

Managing Workplace Legal Risk During the Pandemic

General Contractors continue to build things that matter during the COVID-19 Pandemic in spite of concerns about possible second wave shutdowns and conflicting public and occupational health regulatory guidance. Norm Keith, Canada’s leading OHS lawyer, will provide clear & concise guidance on the law and best practices for minimizing legal risk on construction projects during the pandemic. He will also provide guidance on dealing with fearful workers and enthusiastic regulators when there is a COVID19 outbreak at a construction site.

Honing Intuition to Build a Better Health & Safety Culture

Erin Oliver, Vice President, Health, Safety & Sustainability at Modern Niagara will delve into the understanding of how to blend the technical, statistical health and safety with the science behind intuition of good leadership. As leaders, we need to strive to seek a balance between statistical and intuitive program development. With a healthy balance of both, strong programs can become innovative, sustainable and deeply rooted with a strong health & safety culture. Culture is a concept borne in our human capital. Therefore, we must have both excellent objective data and excellent intuitive thought in our program development to improve beyond our current state.

Project Bid Opportunities
The City of Toronto and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) issued a Request for Qualification (RFQ) for the George Street Revitalization project, which will reinvent the northernmost block of George Street (between Dundas Street East and Gerrard Street East). The project will include about 622,000 sq ft of new construction and restored heritage buildings. Seaton House men's shelter and other nearby properties will be transformed into a new shared facility, providing specialized care for vulnerable populations.

Some of the proposed features of the building include:

  • A long-term care home with 378 beds
  • A 100-bed emergency shelter for men
  • An innovative 130-bed “transitional living” service for men and women who need more care than traditional supportive housing can provide, but less than what a long-term care home involves
  • A service hub for program clients as well as members of the surrounding community
  • 21 units of affordable housing with supports

George Street Revitalization will be the catalyst for a more safe and vibrant community for all in the heart of the historic Garden District.

Estimated Project Value: $125,000,000
