Investment in effective and digitized preconstruction can be profitable: report
n partnership with Procore Technologies, Inc. FMI Corp. released the results of The State of Global Preconstruction Report, which discusses the current environment for preconstruction and the characteristics of organizations that do it well, including what constitutes above-average preconstruction processes and the effects of efficient and digitized preconstruction.
This report survey 979 construction industry stakeholders worldwide who were were asked to describe the preconstruction practices in their organizations, tools and technologies, project experiences and outcomes.

PCL Construction Releases 2021 CSR Report
PCL Construction, a longtime sustainability leader, has released its 2021 Corporate Social Responsibility Report, highlighting the company’s achievements in environmental stewardship.
The report provides an update on the company’s multiyear sustainability road map, which includes reducing construction-related carbon emissions, building infrastructure to power communities with clean energy and leveraging renewable materials when possible.

Completion of Eglinton Crosstown LRT project delayed until at least 2023
The 19-kilometre Eglinton Crosstown light rapid transit line won’t be up and running by the end of this year, according to a statement from Metrolinx.
“We had expected the Eglinton Crosstown LRT to be fully built, thoroughly tested, and in service this fall in accordance with our project agreement with Crosslinx Transit Solutions, the construction consortium responsible for building the project,” said Metrolinx president and CEO Phil Verster in a statement released on Friday.

WSP building Canadian Pacific Railway’s hydrogen operations
WSP in Canada (WSP) has been awarded the detailed design contract for two hydrogen production and refueling operations being constructed to support Canadian Pacific’s (CP) Hydrogen Locomotive Program.
Construction is expected to begin in late 2022, with the first hydrogen to be supplied to CP hydrogen locomotive in 2023.
Earlier this year, ATCO Group (ATCO) was awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction services (EPC) contract from CP. The hydrogen infrastructure at each site will include a 1MW electrolyzer, compression, storage and dispensing for locomotive refuelling.

LiUNA Local 183 Tunnel Rescue Training Centre now open
The first of its kind in Canada, the new LiUNA Tunnel Rescue Facility consists of a 10-metre diameter vertical shaft that drops eight metres to a concrete tunnel extending 30 metres onto the property. The tunnel has air packs and various equipment, including ropes and a gantry crane to simulate rescues.
Located in Vaughan at 8700 Huntington Road, fire departments and emergency medical services, as well as LiUNA locals from across North America, will be able to utilize the tunnel rescue facility for training.
Contractors can now send their workers to the facility for tunnel rescue training and, eventually, tunnelling skills training.

Preferred bidders confirmed for Toronto’s Ontario Line
Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have announced the preferred proponent teams for two major contracts relating to the GTA subway projects.
The Ontario Transit Group was awarded a design-build-finance contract for the southern section of Toronto’s Ontario Line running from Exhibition/Ontario Place to the Don Yard portal, west of the Don River.
