Travel & Adventure Show in NYC

New York PATA - Industry Partner

A GOOD 2023 START FOR THE TRAVEL INDUSTRY .... The New York Travel & Adventure Show returned to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center two days ago (28/29Jan), following its eagerly anticipated 2022 debut in New York City, with more exhibitors and events, travel insights and advice from leading industry professionals, and chances to plan upcoming adventures.

About 10000 trade partners and consumers braved the cold weather. They were not disappointed as there were lots of deals available. On its first day alone, most suppliers ran out of brochures and travel materials. Remarks by Joebert Opulencia.

Croatia Pavilion

The Croatian National Tourist Board and its Representative Office in the USA presented the Croatian tourist offer at the New York Travel Adventure Show, which was held on January 28 and 29 in New York. Given that Croatia is the only European country with the status of a partner of this year's edition of the fair, a Croatian tourist delegation led by Kristjan Staničić, director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, is also staying in New York, which on this occasion organized a special "Croatian pavilion" as part of which its offer at the fair was represented by 46 Croatian entities, who had the opportunity to hold their own presentations in front of the most important partners from the American market. The fair was also visited by Pjer Šimunović, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia in the USA, and Nikica Kopačević, Consul General.

"We are extremely pleased with the excellent response from Croatian as well as American tourist entities, which in turn confirm the growth of our country's popularity among American travel enthusiasts. We successfully maintained, and I would say further strengthened our position in this market. I believe in the continuation of the positive and upward trend, and since it is a distant market, we will focus most of our attention and activities on the further strengthening of airlines and strategic cooperation with tour operators in order to make our country as accessible as possible to Americans", said Leila Krešić Jurić, director of the CNTB in New York, adding that the meeting was also held with representatives of Collette, one of the largest and oldest American tour operators.

With the representatives of the tour operator Downtown Travel, the largest renters of seats of United Airlines, it was discussed about the initiation of cooperation through the creation of special "tailor made" offers for different types of American agents adapted to different groups of American tourists.

With a long-term partner, Turkish Airlines USA, headed by general manager Emre Ismailoglu, they discussed the possibilities of further increasing tourist traffic to Croatian destinations, conducting joint campaigns and events, as well as the introduction of new airlines for Croatia with an emphasis on flights in the pre- and post-season.

Let us add that the tourist boards of Counties Dubrovnik-Neretva, Split-Dalmatia, Šibenik-Knin, Zadar and Lika-Senj, Kvarner and the cities of Zagreb and Pula, as well as Plitvice Lakes National Park and about 30 other entities, agencies and hotel groups from Croatia were presented at the fair.

Pakistan Pavilion

Around twenty prominent companies in Tourism Sector & Hospitality along with Provincial Tourism Departments of Pakistan represented Pakistan in the Travel and Adventure Show. The Pakistani companies from the tourism and hospitality sector, who were participating in the fair, had various B2B meetings with major tour operators in USA as well as numerous International Buyers, during first and the second day of the event. The Commercial Section at the Embassy of Pakistan at the United States made it possible to get the site for the Pakistan Pavilion at the main venue of the Trade and Adventure Show, which helped to draw the attention of thousands of people to the Pakistani stalls at the Show. The aim of Pakistan’s participation in the show was to attract foreign investors in the country’s tourism and hospitality sector.

Chinese New Year in China

aka Spring Festival is Celebrated Across China; Beijing, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Shandong, Hunan, Xian, Jiangsu...

Spring in China

BEGINNING of SPRING

Today, February 3 is 立春 lì chūn, or the Beginning of Spring, the solar term that’ll see us into Spring Festival and Chinese New Year, making this time of year a festive one in Beijing! While the capital’s canals and lakes are still frozen, residents know that the coldest temperatures are behind them. For farmers, it marks the beginning of the planting season as folks in the countryside prepare seeds and tools while offering prayers and ceremonies for a successful harvest in the upcoming year.

Traditional Chinese calendar divides a year into 24 solar terms. Lichun traditionally signifies the beginning of spring in East Asian cultures.

Happy Lantern Festival

Today is Lantern Festival (February 5, 2023)

The Lantern Festival originates as far back as the Han dynasty (206 BCE to 220 CE), when Buddhist monks would light lanterns on the 15th day of the lunar year in honor of the Buddha. The rite was later adopted by the general population and spread throughout China and other parts of Asia. Lantern Festivals have also become popular in Western countries. It is celebrated today in NYC Chinatown. It marks the end of the Spring Festival celebrations.

On the night of the Lantern Festival, streets are decorated with colorful lanterns, often with riddles written on them. Festival celebrations also include lion and dragon dances, parades, and fireworks. Small glutinous rice balls which can be filled with fruits or nuts, called yuanxiao or tangyuan, are eaten during the festival. The round shape of the balls symbolizes wholeness and unity within the family.

Japan

Spring in Japan - Setsubun and Tokyo Now

February 3 is known as “Setsubun,” which marks the beginning of spring in Japan. This is a day for holding events to drive away evil spirits and welcome the coming of a refreshing spring, and for "mamemaki" - bean-throwing—which takes place at homes and involves throwing roasted beans to cries of "Fuku wa uchi, oni wa soto" - meaning “Happiness in! Demons out!” Various events to bring good fortune associated with Setsubun are also held at shrines and

temples nationwide. Enjoy a Setsubun scene from the events held at Gunma’s

Henjoji Temple and Kyoto's Yasaka Shrine and elsewhere.
