FAMILY ENGAGEMENT

A Place at the TABLE

Since 2008, TABLE has strived to create an equitable “place at the table” for local children and their families. In addition to providing access to fresh, healthy food, we have learned that one of the best ways to ensure our kids receive the support they need most to improve their health is by collaborating directly with parents, guardians, and families.

We have undertaken several initiatives and hired more staff over the past few years to make our family relationships meaningful and intentional, with the goal of ensuring the overall health and well-being of the kids we serve.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT

Ned Weeks

Volunteers are an essential ingredient to TABLE’s success. We rely on 175 volunteers every week to pack bags, deliver food, shelve and organize donations, take care of recycling, and much more!

Ned has been volunteering at TABLE since August 2021 and is a staple at our Fresh Food bagging shifts every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We can always count on him to have an upbeat attitude and to know all the lyrics to every 80’s hit song!

Fighting the Stigma of Food Insecurity, One Step at a Time

Harmony Chavis shares her thoughts in our latest blog on how each of us can contribute to fighting the stigma of food insecurity. Sometimes the little things can lead to something bigger.

“No one person can change the stigma surrounding poverty and systematic failures that produce circumstances that cause people to lack basic needs like food, healthcare, housing, and education. We can, however, still do something powerful by obliterating shame in its tracks by being empathetic.”
