Join us in celebrating this historic Mexican holiday in Thornton! There will be family-friendly events such as face-painting, music by Elisa Garcia and Mariachi Sangre Mexicana, Thornton youth and Fiesta Colorado dancers, a stilt walker, art market, ancestor altar, photo booth, Butterfly Pavilion monarch information table, and Catrina costume contest with prizes. This event is free except for the face-painting and food vendors.

Mayor's Food and Sock Drive

November 1-30

Help community members in need and those experiencing homelessness by donating new socks and non-perishable food items throughout the month of November at various Thornton locations. There is especially a need for holiday meal food items such as green beans, corn, instant mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, cranberries, etc.


Drop off items at the following locations during business hours:

Community Fall Leaf Drop-off Event

November 4, 8 a.m.-12 p.m., Infrastructure Maintenance Center, 12450 Washington St.

Thornton residents can drop off their leaves and compost materials for free recycling. Please use lawn and leaf paper sacks or be prepared to open and empty all other bags onsite. No commercial or landscaping companies.

Election Day is November 7

The deadline to submit your ballot for the 2023 coordinated election is 7 p.m., November 7. You may mail in your ballot, drop it off at any local 24-hour ballot drop box or go to a voter service and polling center.

The Code Compliance Assistance Program (CodeCAP) is Hiring

CodeCAP is seeking arborists/tree services, junk/haul services, fencing installers and landscapers to assist income-eligible homeowners in mitigating code violations.


The services provided are free to qualified homeowners and are paid for through Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding. If you need assistance with working with federally-funded programs or more information about applying, contact the CodeCAP Coordinator at 720-977-5818 or at Housing@ThorntonCO.gov.

Veterans Day Holiday Closures, Hours and Delays

Thornton city offices, Arts and Culture Center, Active Adult Center and Community Connections will be closed for the Veterans Day Holiday on Friday, November 10.


Offices will reopen regular hours on Monday, November 13. There will be NO DELAY in city trash/recycling collection.

Buying a home can be an intimidating process. Learn about the home-buying process, taxes, maintenance, budgeting, and down-payment assistance programs at one of these free workshops. Attendees can use the course completion certificate to receive financial assistance with their home purchase.

Join the Thornton Assistance Funds (TAF) Committee

Be a part of helping non-profit organizations that assist members of the Thornton community with basic needs such as food, housing, health and medical, or human services. The TAF Committee is made up of residents that review submitted grant applications and make recommendations to City Council.
