Buying a home can be an intimidating process. Learn about the home-buying process, taxes, maintenance, budgeting, and down-payment assistance programs at one of these free workshops. Attendees can use the course completion certificate to receive financial assistance with their home purchase.

Holiday Closures, Hours and Delays

Thornton city offices, Arts & Culture Center, Community Connections, Carpenter Recreation Center and the Active Adult Center will be closed for the Labor Day Holiday on September 4. Offices will reopen regular hours on Tuesday, September 5.


Trail Winds Recreation Center will be open from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on September 4, but the Active Adult Wing will be closed. Carpenter Recreation Center has been closed for annual maintenance and will reopen at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, September 5.


City trash/recycling services will be on a one-day holiday delay starting Monday September 4. If your scheduled pick up is Monday, your trash/recycling will be collected on Tuesday and so on with regular Friday collection being picked up on Saturday. Artmaking Workshop: The Science of Light and Color

September 9, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Active Adult Center, 11181 Colorado Blvd.

A new public art piece is being installed at the Active Adult Center (AAC)

and Arts Thornton is hosting a free artmaking workshop to celebrate!


Artist Nick Athanasiou will help participants explore how to use sculptural materials to examine the vibrance of light, nature, and color, as they create a small, floral sculpture that mimics the new art installation.

Code Compliance Assistance Program (CodeCAP)

Through the CodeCAP program, income-qualified Thornton homeowners can receive assistance fixing yard code violations. Eligible projects include hazardous tree removal; trash and debris removal (including furniture, appliances and vehicles); fence repair/replacement and minor front yard water-wise landscaping.

Tree Branch, Limb and Compost Recycling

September 16, 8 a.m.-12 p.m., Infrastructure Maintenance Center, 12450 Washington St.

Thornton can drop off their tree branches, limbs and compost items for free recycling. Residents are responsible for unloading branches and all compost material. Any compost material placed in anything other than 3-gallon compostable kitchen bags must be opened on site. NO commercial or landscaping companies. Proof of residency required. Development Code Update Kick-off Event
