Synod Staffing Announcement
In gratefulness for his ministry, we are announcing that Rev. Chris Steubing is concluding his time as Bishop’s Associate and Director for Evangelical Mission in the Southwestern Texas Synod at the end of this month.
We give thanks for the many gifts Chris has shared with our staff, our synod, and throughout the church. His wisdom, enthusiasm, integrity, and faithfulness have inspired us - and we give thanks to God for him. We hold him in prayer as he will soon transition back to his passion of congregational leadership - and look forward to partnering in ministry in new ways.
In Christ’s love,
Bp. Sue Briner

Dear Siblings of the Southwestern Texas Synod,
I would like to let you know that after much prayer and discernment, I have decided to resign from my position as Director for Evangelical Mission. I have accepted the call to serve as pastor of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Canyon Lake. I am excited to return to serving in a congregational role while remaining in the synod. I look forward to participating in our synod’s network of Spirit-empowered communities of disciples through my new call.
Over the past three years serving in this role, I have learned a great deal about the church, our synod, and myself. I have been blessed by wonderful relationships, diverse experiences, and growth opportunities. I have been amazed and humbled to witness God at work all across the Southwestern Texas Synod.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Bishop Briner for the opportunity to serve and for her guidance and partnership. Likewise, I am grateful for my incredible colleagues who have taught me so much through our shared ministry of caring for and supporting leaders, coordinating synod-wide justice work, exploring new ministries, and resourcing congregations.
To ensure a smooth transition, I will continue serving in my synod role through the end of May.
May God's blessings and peace be upon you and the entire synod.
Sincerely,
Chris Steubing
