Swansea Budget Bulletin

Dear Resident,

Today the Minns Labor Government handed down our first budget since being elected in March.

This Budget delivers on our local commitments, provides cost of living relief, and boosts essential services in NSW.

Over the past 12 years, our community was neglected by the former Liberal Government but this budget delivers significant investment on key local issues including, addressing traffic congestion on Carters Road, upgrading local sporting facilities, along with investing in our local hospitals and schools.

But this is just the start our Government is committed to managing our finances responsibly by redirecting wasteful spending, rebuilding our essential services, investing in frontline workers and ensuring we provide support when people need it most.

DELIVERING LOCALLY

Upgrades to Halekulani Oval

We are delivering on our election commitment to upgrade the lighting at Halekulani Oval.

Central Coast Council has been provided with $120,000 to install floodlighting, as well as additional lighting to the existing poles at Halekulani Oval. The funding complements the $1.3 million provided to upgrade amenities at the ground.

The lighting will allow Budgewoi Bulldogs Junior Rugby League Club to utilize two fields, provide the opportunity for extra training, and hold night tournaments.

Carters Road Funding

In a big win for our community, the Minns Labor Government is investing $1 million to find a solution to the traffic congestion on Carters Road.

This funding will go towards a traffic study which will help plan a collector road link between Tall Timbers Road and Chain Valley Bay Road.

I look forward to working with the community, local schools, and Council to deliver the best possible result.

Blacksmiths Oval Upgrade

At the election, I committed to secure funding to upgrade the lighting at Blacksmiths Oval and this budget has delivered $174,000 to Lake Macquarie City Council to do exactly that.

The oval is home to the Belmont Swansea United FC. The current lighting system has become outdated and needs to be upgraded to ensure the club can continue to grow.

I am proud to have delivered this funding.

Rebuilding our Health System

We vowed to prioritize rebuilding our health system at the election and are delivering on exactly that.

The Government is investing $572 million in making 1,112 nurses permanent, these positions were left unfunded by the former Government. This includes 138 nurses in the Hunter and 57 on the Central Coast.

$438.6 million has also been allocated to deliver an additional 500 regional paramedics, which will benefit our community.

A key election commitment was to deliver Safe-Staffing levels in our hospitals and the Government has signed an MOU to achieve this, along with providing $419.1 million in funding in this budget.

Acting on the Housing Crisis

This Budget after years of neglect by the former Government finally acts on our state's housing crisis with a $1.5 billion investment to support new housing supply and deliver key enabling infrastructure for growth areas including the Central Coast and Lower Hunter.

The Government is also delivering $100 million into the Housing Infrastructure Fund to focus on infrastructure projects that will unlock housing in regional NSW.

Cheaper and More Accessible Childcare

The Government is investing $100 million to boost preschool education and provide cost of living relief.

As part of this package, $64 million will go toward fee relief over the next two years to provide $500 in fee relief per child, per year for parents of three-year-olds in long day care preschool programs.

$20 million will support the Flexible Initiatives Trial to expand access to early childhood education and care, extend hours, and assist parents re-entering the workforce.

While a further $20 million will be invested in capital funds to support new not-for-profit services in high-growth and regional communities.

Finally, $22 million over five years will go to recruiting and retaining essential early childhood workers.
