Walk and Roll Wednesdays

First Wednesday Every Month (schools may vary)

Establishing a designated Walk/Roll Day at your school keeps the momentum going after International Walk and Roll to School Day. Students and families have a designated day each week, such as Walk/Roll Wednesdays.

This is a great way to ingrain walking/bicycling into your school culture. Fun themes help make the enthusiasm for walking and rolling a year-long treat. It can also be a catalyst to encourage weekly walk and roll days, walking school buses, and bike trains.

Parent Volunteer Meeting

August 29, 10:30am - 12:30pm, at the Transportation Authority of Marin.

RSVP: Monica@marinbike.org or Mira@marinbike.org

Lawn Replacement Rebates for Marin Water Customers

Customers may receive a rebate of up to $3 per square foot for replacing grass in their landscapes. Homeowner reimbursements will be capped at 1,000 square feet, and business owners capped at 5,000 square feet. The base rebate of $1.50 per square foot has fewer requirements to provide customers with more flexibility while still achieving water savings. The top tier rebate of $3 per square foot is available to customers who follow best management practices to optimize long-term water savings, including:

  • Sheet mulching in place versus physical removal of lawn.
  • Installation of mostly California native low water use plants over at least 50% of the project area based on mature plant size.
  • Installation of an alternative water source or stormwater capture feature such as a rain garden, rainwater harvesting cistern, or graywater system.

Back to School: Sustainably and Safely!

Summer isn't over yet but the school bell will be ringing soon. Let's keep the good vibes of Plastic Free July going as we get ready for the school year! Check out this short video for ideas on how to keep your school routine simple and green and save some money while you're at it.

Why not take the carbon out of your commute? Explore our community's resource Safe Routes to School and see if one of these great options works for your family.

Whether or not you have kids in school you can take some of the frustration out of that 8 am commute while contributing to lowering our community's carbon emission. Start your day on the right foot (or tire!) by powering your commute on foot or bike. Explore options for public transport or try carpooling. Marin Commutes has your back! Maybe biking or public transport doesn't work all the time but every day you make the switch to cleaner transportation, makes a difference. Remember to slow down and watch for kids!
