We are devastated by the news of the earthquake that struck Haiti on August 14th. This is a time of great pain for our local Haitian community and our hearts are with our brothers and sisters in Haiti. As a community foundation, we value the knowledge and leadership of organizations with experience and boots on the ground. In response, the Coral Gables Community Foundation will provide support from our Community Response Fund to organizations responding to the greatest needs by providing relief to those impacted. A 32-year old nonprofit organization on the ground in Haiti addressing and responding to both the short and long-term needs arising. Hope for Haiti has been working in southern Haiti to provide resources and empower local leaders and support systems on education, healthcare, access to clean water, and economic opportunity. They currently have 62 full-time Haitian team members who call Les Cayes home serving as the key leaders in the implementation of resources as well as their Infirmary St. Etienne providing essential services such as wound care and clean water.
United Way of Miami-Dade and Miami Herald/el Nuevo Herald, in partnership with Haitian-led Sant La Haitian Neighborhood Center, Univision, and Miami-Dade County have activated their Operation Helping Hands Haiti Relief Effort to provide support with short- and long-term needs of those in Haiti affected by the earthquake.
The Community Foundation for Haiti (Ayiti) is Haitian-led and has relationships on the ground in Haiti to support relief and long-term recovery. They are sourcing donations, medical supplies, and volunteers to support relief efforts in partnership with The Smile Trust.
A Haitian-led advocacy and social service agency in Little Haiti, serving the needs of low-income families. They are currently collecting donations, medical supplies, over-the-counter medications, water cases, non-perishable food, and PPE for those in need in Haiti.
