Meeting with Congressman Jim Himes to advocate for policy change to support Haitian neighbors

JFS of Greenwich joined members of the Haitian-American community to meet with Congressman Jim Himes and advocate for policy change locally and abroad.

As a Connecticut resettlement agency, we are a beacon of support for new Haitian neighbors coming to the U.S. through the Refugee Entrant and Assistance Program. CEO Rachel Kornfeld spoke about the disparity of funding in this program and the need for legal services to assist our new neighbors in becoming self-sufficient. Diana Revolus, former Norwalk city council woman addressed the issues in Haiti, stimulating a thoughtful discussion with Congressman Himes.

We are grateful to be able to use our expertise to positively affect policy in the State of Connecticut and at the Federal level.

Free Haircuts Bring Connection to Stamford Seniors

To cultivate a pipeline of potential work opportunities and foster conversations about life in America, Case Manager Benson Casimir helped facilitate a thoughtful event, offering complimentary haircuts to residents at a Stamford home for seniors. The goal was to foster connections and improve lives. Cathy Castiblanco, owner of Cut and Shave Westport, and Hugo Ramirez from Affinity Federal Credit Union worked together to make this initiative possible.

Their collaboration demonstrated how coming together can create positive change, bringing happiness and dignity to the elders in the community and serves as a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a significant difference.
