Thank you for a Successful Forum!
|
|
Our 8th Annual Forum on the Latino Community was a success with more than 180 people in attendance! We saw three amazing presentations on the importance of leadership within our Latino communities and the barriers that have affected these positions. In addition to our presentations, we celebrated our Quetzal Award winners - Pablo Bermúdez, Michele Hill and Gladys Puente on stage. We would like to thank everyone for joining us at our forum this year!

Carolina is a diabetic and like many others with her disease, her eyesight unfortunately began to deteriorate over the years. She did not have the resources to access the care she needed and because of this, her eyesight continued to get worse resulting in daily eye pain and headaches. With her symptoms becoming increasingly intolerable, Carolina was referred to us and we immediately got to work connecting her to the care she so desperately needed.
Thanks to our partnership with EYE-Q in Lincoln, Carolina was able to receive an eye exam and the prescription glasses she needed. Over time, Carolina has been able to adjust to her new prescription and is grateful to not only see again, but to be rid of her eye pain and headaches as well.
“Thank you to the LLC for helping the Latino community when we need it the most. Another thank you to EYE-Q for partnering with the LLC to offer affordable eyecare to our community. Without you both, I would still be suffering daily.”

Latinx youth are experiencing high rates of exposure and use of marijuana. In 2020 alone, 25.6% of Latinx youth in 6th-12th grade reported using marijuana in an e-cigarette. Often, youth in our communities find it difficult to talk to their parents about their challenges with drugs because of how they may react, as displayed in our reenactment. Your reactions and how you talk about people and their addictions will affect what your teenager shares with you.
If you, your peers, or your teen are in need of support, please reach out to Amy Barrios at (323) 481-7575.

The Praxis Project and Sierra Native Alliance hosted a Youth Facilitator Training to provide information to the youth of Placer County. Our very own Entre Amigos Youth Ambassador, Alex, had the opportunity to be on the panel and discuss his experiences with social inequality both in his personal life and amongst his peers. We are so proud of Alex for taking the initiative to discuss the social challenges that Latinx youths face!
