A Request From Mauricio Lopez, Past President World CLC
Dear CLC Members in Canada
This is a picture of Pope Francis with Mauricio Lopez who was World CLC President 2013-2018. I had the privilege of meeting him at the World CLC Assembly in Buenos Aires. He and his wife live in Equador and Mau has been instrumental in walking with the Indigenous peoples of the Amazon, whose lives have been threatened by destruction and deforestation of the Rainforests by big industry. As many of you know, the Amazon Rainforests are the lungs of the World and are needed for not only for the preservation of the Amazon but for our own well being and breath as well. I could write pages about Mauricio but, hopefully you can Google him under Amazonia and Laudato Si. Recently, he sent me an appeal for Financial support for a University Program for the Indigenous of Amazonia called PUAM. I hope you will read his letter and see videos below and consider donating. Although, I realize that we are all saving funds for our upcoming National Assembly, perhaps you could spare a little for this very worthy investment either as an individual or as a community.
We share with you (as suggested by some members of the community) a message from our sister Fabi Romero from CLC Mexico, Merida, in which she shares the mission she is initiating in the Amazon in our Amazon University Program - PUAM and the request for support to continue this mission. We ask for your help by sharing this message and the links to the campaign: "Together for the Amazon, together for the future" with your contacts and networks. https://puamazonico.org/en/take-action/ .
There is no help that is not important.
The help received will allow us to sustain the mission and the work of Fabi and other members of the team, who are already working to develop the programs and the community centers with which we will be able to bring higher education to the Amazonian peoples.
A big hug
Mauricio Lopez Oropeza
