Support Filling the Lane: Building Futures Through Basketball

Hello, my name is Tyrese Mayo, and I have been a proud member of Filling the Lane (FTL) for four transformative years. My journey with this team has left an indelible mark on my life, shaping me into the person I am today and preparing me for the challenges of adulthood.

The name “Filling the Lane” encapsulates more than just basketball. It symbolizes the program’s commitment to preparing us for every aspect of life, ensuring we are never unprepared. The coaches and staff have nurtured me, treating me as family and guiding me with unwavering support. Each year, I eagerly anticipate traveling with FTL, showcasing our strength not only as a team but as a united family.

When I joined FTL, I expected it to be all about basketball. However, I quickly discovered it offered much more: mentorship, life lessons, and personal growth. Whether it’s doing schoolwork on the way to tournaments or facing unexpected challenges together, my time with FTL has been filled with joy and laughter. This program has been instrumental in building my character and resilience.

As I transition to playing college basketball, I reflect on the invaluable experiences and growth I have achieved with FTL. One standout memory is visiting historical landmarks like Martin Luther King Jr.’s house, which broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of our heritage. Another memorable moment was staying in a five-story house during a trip to Kansas, where we bonded over roasted marshmallows and games of hide and seek.

FTL has not only honed my basketball skills but also enriched my identity as a young Black man. Mr. Miller and the coaches have always pushed me to excel beyond the court. Their dedication to our holistic development is unparalleled, and I am immensely grateful for their guidance.

None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors. Their contributions have allowed me to travel, compete, and grow in ways I never imagined. As I close this chapter of my life, I am proud to say that FTL has shaped me as both a player and a person.

Now, I invite you to join us in supporting Filling the Lane. Your contributions can help provide more young athletes like me with life-changing opportunities. Together, we can continue to build futures through the power of basketball. Thank you for considering a donation to this incredible program.

With gratitude,

Tyrese Mayo
