Supervisors Proclaim Day Of Solidarity With Ukraine

On Tuesday, the Board of Supervisors passed a proclamation supporting Ukraine as the one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion approaches.

The Board proclaimed tomorrow, February 24, as a Day of Solidarity with the People of Ukraine, and urged all Whitpain residents to stand in support of the Ukrainian people and their struggle for freedom.

At the same meeting, the Supervisors also passed a resolution condemning anti-Semitism and all forms of hate. This resolution was crafted with the help of the Township’s Human Relations Commission and was subsequently adopted by the Board.

Supervisors Recognize Long-Time Employee

The Board of Supervisors recently recognized long-time Township employee, Lena Cabot, for her much-deserved retirement.

Lena began working for the Township back in February of 2001 and served as an administrative assistant in the Code Enforcement Department. In 2011, she received a promotion and moved to the Finance Department where she has served as an Accounts Payable/Receivable Administrator.

“Lena posses a strong work ethic and worked tirelessly to ensure accuracy in her work for the Finance Department,” said Township Manager Roman Pronczak. “We will miss many things about Lena, but perhaps the thing we will miss most is her continual willingness to help others no matter how busy she is with her own duties.”

Take A Survey To Help Improve Biking Conditions

The Township has partnered with GVF on a project aimed at improving biking conditions for residents and employees in Whitpain.

"Bike More, Drive Less" will create a plan that identifies barriers to biking more and driving less. The Township and GVF, a non-profit with 30 years of transportation and mobility planning experience, want to hear your experiences with the biking system and what could be improved.

Trees Benefit The Community

Trees in our community offer many environmental benefits often called ‘ecosystem services’.

In addition, trees provide many aesthetic qualities as well, making for more pleasing landscape and neighborhoods. It is well-documented that communities with more trees have higher property values (3 to 15 percent) and a greater sense of community pride.

Help support the Shade Tree Commission’s goal of a restored tree canopy as we look after our trees and woodland that make Whitpain a better place to live and work.

From The EAC: Battery Recycling Program

The Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) will start collecting residents’ used batteries.

Batteries will be collected for recycling at locations within the Township on a periodic basis. The first collection is scheduled for Saturday, March 4 outside the Township Building from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Collection is only open to Whitpain residents. Proof of residency will be required. Residents will be required to properly tape certain batteries (click below for a list) before dropping them off and are asked to do so before arriving to speed up the drop-off process.

Large volumes of batteries cannot be handled by this program as it is designed for small volumes of batteries used by residents. Car batteries and industrial batters will not be accepted.

Community Corner

State Sen. Maria Collett, state Rep. Liz Hanbidge and state Rep. Melissa Cerrato will host an electronics recycling event on March 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Montgomery County Community College.

Throughout February, state Rep. Matt Bradford's Worcester and Norriton offices are collecting canned food items on behalf of Martha’s Choice Marketplace & Community Farm, the largest and most visited food pantry in Montgomery County. Office hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2000 Bustard Road, Suite 6, Cedars, or at 750 E. Johnson Highway, Norristown.

Hunger impacts every community, so it’s important to support local organizations that are answering that need. Please consider dropping off a donation, which will address food insecurity and help our neighbors.
