Milling Future Woodworking Projects
Milling donated trees using the district's portable sawmill is an annual routine for SD73 woodworking teachers, like Sue Scallon at SKSS. It means wood that might otherwise not be used can be recycled for the benefit of students. Read more...
Congratulations MEd Graduates!
On June 5, 2019 at Thompson Rivers University the following educators received their Master of Education Degrees:  Tory Anne Anchikoski, Michael Chambers, Tara Champness, Crosby Dorais, Paulette Gendron, Martin Ilic, Jayne Latta, Darren Siebel, and Katrine Simoes.
Recognition for Former Superintendent
Karl deBruijn, an educator and leader who spent 40 years with the school district, received an honorary degree from Thompson Rivers University. The Doctor of Letters, honoris causa was in recognition of his longstanding commitment to advancing education at the elementary, secondary and post-secondary level for all learners in the region. There were 130 graduates at the 30th annual celebration of Aboriginal graduation. Graduates represented each of the region's schools and all its First Nations. Read more...

The Ancient Art of Taiko Drumming
Students at Kamloops School of the Arts enjoyed an upbeat music experience in May. They learned about the ancient Japanese art of Taiko percussion, and as part of the experience they spent a part of most mornings playing their big drums outdoors.  Read more..
Battle of Books: The Next Level
Some grade 8 and 9 students competed in a re-invention of the iconic Battle of the Books at SKSS. The new event focused on critical and creative thinking and communication, with new tasks including a fashion show with a twist. Read more...
Arthur Stevenson Wins Gold Star Award
The B.C. Retired Teacher's Association has awarded a grade 4 class at Arthur Stevenson Elementary School with a Gold Star Award. The class has been visiting some senior residents and playing cribbage with them throughout the school year. Read more.. .
Tackling Numeracy with Drama at KSA
KSA students are exploring numeracy with presentations that incorporate all the arts. One example is Harmonagan , using dance and music to show numeracy in everything from musical calculations to construction. Read more...

Networks of Inquiry and Indigenous Education- (NOIIE)
Doing What Matters Most, May 10 and 11

Lisa Carson , Director of Instruction attended a symposium sponsored by the Networks of Inquiry and Indigenous Education. She presented on Transformative Impact in SD73 and was joined by five school teams who were part of this year's Spiral of Inquiry Network. 

Barb Hamblett , Principal presented on using spirals of inquiry to transform Valleyview Secondary into a collaborative learning organization. She also shared her involvement in SD73’s newly formed Spiral Network, aimed at helping other schools use the framework. 
Four Directions Elders Project
In March, Four Directions Secondary School welcomed 22 Elders for the Four Directions Elders Project. The Elders' work with students is reflected in a publication about the project, thanks to Principal Kent Brewer , Vice-Principal Beth Dye , Graphic Technician Carlo Sia and Photographer Sara Schreiner .
