NATIONAL RENDERING DAY
National Rendering Day is on April 21 and we are celebrating by bringing awareness to reducing and eliminating food waste through a process known as rendering.
North Americans consider roughly 50% of an animal inedible. This leaves a lot of leftover material that ends up as food waste. On National Rendering Day, we learn about how we can eliminate this waste, what rendering means, and why using the rendering process is the smart choice.
What is rendering? In short, rendering is recycling from that 50% of the animal we don’t eat. Rendering reclaims the otherwise wasted material, such as protein, bone, and fat and even includes used cooking oil (UCO) from restaurants. The rendering process safely, hygienically, and sustainably processes that unused material (the meat we don’t eat) into new products and goods so nothing is wasted. When we render material safely and hygienically, we process the material in a sustainable and safe manner. In addition, we convert what would have been food waste into material for use in new products.
Rendering demonstrates respect and resourcefulness, especially for the livestock that were raised with care by farmers. In fact, rendering shows respect for the animal itself by using all of the animal. In other words, no part of the animal goes to waste. Additionally, by offsetting the environmental impacts of animal agriculture, rendering shrinks our food production footprint.
Rendering Process
The rendering process transforms and upcycles what would have been food waste into safe, clean, and valuable ingredients for countless new goods. Rendering also saves landfill space and recycles 99% of unwanted material. For this reason, people can feel confident knowing they are making a sustainable choice by using items made through upcycling by rendering material. Once the rendering process is complete, the ingredients can be used in sustainable production of new goods. These new goods transform into common everyday items, such as:
- Safe and nutritious pet food and animal feed.
- Household and industrial products.
- Biofuels and Biomass-based diesel.
- Renewable diesel.
Eco-Friendly Solution
Rendering is socially and economically sustainable and supports the three pillars of sustainability--environmental, social, and economic. As a highly environmentally sustainable process, rendering:
- Reduces food waste.
- Saves landfill space.
- Reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
- Reclaims and returns clean water to the environment.
- Provides countless recycled products.
Impact on Environment
According to recent data published in 2020, the U.S. and Canada annually produce more than 62 billion pounds of rendered raw materials. As a result of rendering that material, we can produce approximately 31.4 billion pounds of rendered products each year, keeping it out of landfills.
The data also reports that rendering reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 72% when compared to petroleum diesels, and reduces fossil fuel use by 80%. In comparison to industrial composting, rendering avoids at least 90% of the potential GHG emissions. Simply put, rendering is the GHG reduction equivalent of removing approximately 18.5 million cars off the road each year.
Social and Economic Impact
Rendering is a financially sound and community-focused industry, offering career stability and a commitment to community support. Socially, the act of rendering food provides thousands of full-time, stable jobs that support families and local communities from coast to coast, especially in rural areas. Most importantly, local jobs stay local because of the raw and perishable nature of the material being rendered.
Most rendering plants are family owned and operated. Many rendering companies are dedicated and passionate about providing community care and outreach. Renderers also contribute to their neighborhoods and wider communities. From supporting the local little league and fire departments, to helping feed and support those in need, renderers are deeply rooted in social sustainability and community support.
Plant owners invest a considerable amount of time and money to improve and enhance their sustainability efforts. This dedication ensures their facilities remain as climate smart and environmentally responsible as possible.

Wave Evens FAU Series with Big Saturday Effort
Next Game:
at FAU
4/21/2024 | 11:00 AM
ESPN+
BOCA RATON, FL – Strong pitching and seven unanswered runs helped the Tulane Baseball team even its Florida Atlantic series with an 8-3 victory Saturday afternoon at the FAU Baseball Stadium.
The win improved Tulane to 20-13 overall and 6-8 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Owls fell to 20-16 and 7-7 in the league.
Green Wave starter Chandler Welch (5-1) allowed three runs in the second inning but was strong after that, allowing four hits and three walks on the day with seven strikeouts. He gave way to Carter Benbrook and Jacob Moore, who fanned six batters and yielded four hits over the final three shutout innings.
FAU starter Tyler Murphy (3-1) suffered his first loss, giving up four runs (two earned) on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks.
Tulane first baseman Brady Marget went 2-for-5 on the day and drove in three runs, while catcher Colin Tuft and center fielder Teo Banks each scored three times. Banks also blasted his team-leading ninth homer of the season, a solo shot, in the top of the seventh inning.
That gave the Green Wave a 5-3 lead before Tuft (two-run double) and second baseman Connor Rasmussen (RBI single) put the game away with insurance tallies in the ninth.
Tuft also stole his team-high ninth base of the season in the first inning and came around to score the game's first run in the top of the first on a Marget base knock.
The home team had four doubles on the day and right fielder John Schroeder, second baseman Christian Adams and designated hitter Carter Brady all had two hits.
Tulane's pitching staff stranded 11 Owls on Saturday and recorded strikeouts on 10 different FAU batters.
With Saturday's performance, Marget has now taken over the team's RBI lead (32). He has hit safely in 11 straight games, while Rasmussen has reached base in 15 consecutive contests.
The Green Wave is now 15-1 this season when leading after the fifth inning.
The final game of the series will be Sunday at noon ET/11 a.m. CT.

Jefferson Performing Arts Center
6400 Airline Drive | Metairie, LA
(Metairie, Louisiana—The comedy Noises Off is the next Jefferson Performing Arts Society production onstage at Jefferson Performing Arts Center, featuring a cast of nine local performers directed by Harold Heno. Called “the funniest farce ever written”, it will run for five performances only from April 12 through 21 as part of JPAS’s 46th season.
Noises Off (1982) is a Tony-nominated play by British playwright Michael Frayn that is a staple of professional theaters on both sides of the Atlantic. It became a popular movie directed by Peter Bogdanovich in 1992, featuring Michael Caine and Carol Burnett. This play within a play is filled with slapstick antics, including plenty of slamming doors, fallen trousers, and lost sardines. The plot involves a group of British actors rehearsing a flop called Nothing’s On who are far from ready for opening night. Offstage intrigue and drama between the actors add to the show’s fast-paced hilarity, mischief, and mayhem.
Director Harold Heno graduated with his MFA in Directing from the University of New Orleans and spent three years as the resident designer/technical director at Le Petit Theatre before being brought to Campbell University in North Carolina to build their theatre major program. After 5 years in NC, he and his family moved to NYC where he spent 19 years in educational and professional theatre, directing and producing. He and his wife returned to New Orleans during the COVID pandemic. Says Heno of Noises Off: “To this day, it’s still the funniest show I have ever seen or directed, and I am thrilled to share it with another audience!”

NATIONAL CHOCOLATE-COVERED CASHEWS DAY
National Chocolate-Covered Cashews Day is observed each year on April 21st. Not unlike other nuts, cashews and chocolate get along well together. Of course, chocolate lovers savor the combination of nutty crunch and creamy, rich chocolate.
The cashew is a tree from the family Anacardiaceae. Its English name comes from Portuguese for the fruit of the cashew tree “caju.” Originally native to Northeastern Brazil, cashew trees are now widely grown in tropical climates for their cashew fruit and nuts.
With leaves arranged spirally and a leathery texture, the evergreen cashew tree grows up to 32 feet tall. It also often grows with an irregularly shaped trunk. The buds produce small flowers that start pale green and turn reddish, each having five slender, acute petals.
Surprisingly, the cashew nutshell is toxic, so producers shell the cashew before selling it to consumers. While many people enjoy the cashew nut for its delicious buttery flavor on its own, adding chocolate makes it even more enjoyable. It makes a great gift during the winter holidays. However, people enjoy chocolate-covered cashews all year long.

Lost in Translation: 15 English Words That Can't Be Accurately Translated
AD
Language is a fascinating aspect of human culture, and it is often said that words hold the power to shape our understanding of the world. However, when it comes to translating certain English words into other languages, the challenge becomes apparent. Some concepts and ideas are so uniquely expressed in English that they simply cannot be accurately translated. In this blog post, we will explore 15 such English words that defy translation, shedding light on the intricacies of language and the limitations of expression.
Serendipity
The word "serendipity" is a perfect example of how a single word can encapsulate a complex concept. It refers to the occurrence of valuable discoveries or pleasant surprises by chance. Coined by author Horace Walpole in the 18th century, the term is derived from the Persian fairy tale "The Three Princes of Serendip." While other languages may have similar concepts, the elegance and nuance of "serendipity" cannot be replicated.
Wanderlust
"Wanderlust" is a word that resonates with individuals who have an insatiable desire to explore the world. This German loanword combines the words "wander" (to roam) and "lust" (desire), capturing the essence of a deep longing for travel and discovery. While other languages may have words for wanderlust, none quite capture the same passion and yearning for adventure.
AD
Saudade
Saudade is a Portuguese word that represents a deep emotional state of nostalgia and longing for someone or something that is absent. It is a complex feeling that encompasses both happiness and sadness, making it difficult to translate into a single word in English. The closest approximation may be "yearning," but it fails to capture the depth and complexity of saudade.
Tsundoku
In the age of digital media, the act of hoarding books may seem outdated. However, the Japanese word "tsundoku" perfectly captures the practice of buying books and letting them pile up unread. It combines the words "tsunde" (to stack things) and "doku" (to read), illustrating the irresistible temptation to acquire more books than one can possibly read.
Mamihlapinatapai
Originating from the Yaghan language of Tierra del Fuego, this word holds the Guinness World Record for the "most succinct word." "Mamihlapinatapai" refers to a look shared between two people, each longing for the other to initiate something, yet neither taking the first step. It represents a profound moment of unspoken understanding and connection that is difficult to convey in other languages.
AD
Hygge
Hygge is a Danish word that embodies a feeling of coziness and contentment, often associated with moments of warmth and comfort spent with loved ones. Whether it's curling up with a good book by the fireplace or enjoying a candlelit dinner with friends, hygge captures the essence of finding joy in simple pleasures. Although other languages may have similar concepts, hygge remains uniquely Danish.
Schadenfreude
Schadenfreude is a German word that describes the pleasure derived from someone else's misfortune. While the concept itself is not exclusive to the German language, the word itself succinctly captures the complex mix of emotions that accompany this feeling. It is a testament to the German language's ability to precisely express even the darkest corners of human nature.
Tingo
Derived from the Pascuense language spoken on Easter Island, "tingo" refers to the act of gradually borrowing items from a friend's house until there is nothing left. It may sound mischievous, but it reflects the trust and close relationships within the community. Although the concept of borrowing exists in other languages, "tingo" goes beyond a simple transaction, emphasizing the communal nature of the act.
AD
Ubuntu
Ubuntu is a Nguni Bantu term that embodies the idea of interconnectedness and humanity. It emphasizes the belief that our humanity is defined by our relationships with others. Ubuntu is often translated as "I am because we are" or "humanity towards others." This word encapsulates the African philosophy of communal harmony and the recognition of our shared humanity.
Jayus
In Indonesian, "jayus" refers to a joke that is so poorly told or unfunny that it becomes funny. It is a type of humor that relies on the absurdity of the situation rather than the punchline itself. While other languages may have similar concepts, "jayus" captures the unique experience of finding humor in the lack thereof.
Fernweh
Similar to wanderlust, "fernweh" is a German word that describes a longing for far-off places and a deep desire to travel. However, fernweh emphasizes a specific yearning for the unknown, a craving for distant lands that are yet to be explored. It conveys a sense of restlessness and a need to venture beyond familiar horizons.
AD
Nunchi
Nunchi is a Korean word that refers to the ability to gauge the mood, thoughts, and intentions of others in a given situation. It is often described as emotional intelligence or the ability to "read the room." Nunchi emphasizes the importance of being aware of unspoken cues and adapting one's behavior accordingly. Although other languages may have similar concepts, nunchi captures the precise skill of perceiving and responding to the emotions of others.
Meraki
Originating from Greek, "meraki" is a word that describes doing something with soul, creativity, or love. It is the essence of pouring oneself into a task or creating something with passion and devotion. Whether it's a piece of artwork, a home-cooked meal, or a heartfelt gesture, meraki encapsulates the act of infusing one's work with a piece of their own spirit.
L'appel du vide
French for "the call of the void," l'appel du vide refers to the inexplicable urge to do something dangerous or reckless when faced with a precipice or high place. It is the fleeting thought that crosses one's mind, even when they have no intention of acting upon it. L'appel du vide explores the complexities of human psychology, highlighting the paradoxical nature of our desires.
AD
Mamihlapinatapai
We return to this Yaghan word to emphasize its uniqueness. Mamihlapinatapai stands as a testament to the beauty and diversity of languages. While the act it describes may be universal, the word itself is untranslatable, highlighting the limitations of expression and the richness of cultural diversity.
Language is a powerful tool, but it also has its limitations. These 15 English words that defy translation remind us of the intricacies of language and the unique ways in which different cultures perceive and express the world around them. By exploring these untranslatable words, we gain a deeper appreciation for the richness and diversity of human language and the beauty of the human experience.

New Orleans - Still There More
Derby Gisclair
1859: Canal Street
Here is a photograph of what is now the 500-block of Canal Street shown in 1859 by Jay Dearborn Edwards (HNOC). In the background is the St. Charles Hotel. The businesses shown in the foreground run left-to-right from Magazine Street to Camp Street.
On the far left is Payan & Carhart Clothiers which would have been at 72 Canal Street at the time. Next was C.H. Slocomb & Company Hardware, then E.L. E. Bonnet Straw Goods and Mercantile Agency, then Andrew G. Bull & Company Saddles, then Thomas S. Powell's Dry Goods, followed by W.A. Hanney & Company Wholesale Hatters. Next was Smith & Brother Saddlery, then Theodore Frois Importer Dry Goods, and R.B. Harvey Hatters. I cannot discern the name of the paper box company on the corner.

Incredible capture in time! French Quarter snowball vendor, Louis Duplantis selling his snowballs in 1930. It was written for the photo, "These are the only 'snowballs' the children of New Orleans have ever seen, as snow has not fallen there in fifty years." That snowball cart is gorgeous!!

Comedy House New Orleans
The most unique comedy show in New Orleans is The Open Mic From Hell, hosted by Chris Trew (as seen on MTV, Comedy Central, America's Got Talent)
CHNO ( Comedy house New Orleans)
609-610 Fulton St
New Orleans, LA 70130
Mon, Apr 15
8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
(Entry at 7:30 pm)
The Open Mic From Hell is the most unique night of comedy in New Orleans.
Everything about the show is chaotic and unpredictable in the most beautifully hilarious way.
The list of performers? A total mystery.
The jokes they’ll tell? Nobody knows, not even them.
How does it work? Comedians sign-up on the list an hour before showtime. At least 13 names get pulled out of the bucket.
When a name gets pulled they come on stage and make a choice - do they do an entirely new set based on words from the audience, or a special challenge set.
Past challenges have had comics doing their set outside on the street, with noise canceling headphones on, and with a designated heckler in the crowd. We are always adding new, improved, and ridiculous challenges to the show.

2024 Full Moon schedule
(all times Eastern)
- April 23 — 7:49 p.m. — Pink Moon
- May 23 — 9:53 a.m. — Flower Moon
- June 21 — 9:08 p.m. — Strawberry Moon
- July 21 — 6:17 a.m. — Buck Moon
- Aug. 19 — 2:26 p.m. — Sturgeon Moon
- Sept. 17 — 10:34 p.m. — Corn Moon
- Oct. 17 — 7:26 a.m. — Hunter’s Moon
- Nov. 15 — 4:28 p.m. — Beaver Moon
- Dec. 15 — 4:02 a.m. Cold Moon
For instance, almost every month’s Full Moon boasts a name sourced from Native American, Colonial American, or other North American traditions, with their titles mirroring seasonal shifts and nature’s events.
Worm Moon (March): Named after the earthworms that signal thawing grounds.
Pink Moon (April): In honor of the blossoming pink wildflowers.
Related: How to see the eclipse in April
Flower Moon (May): Celebrating the bloom of flowers.
Strawberry Moon (June): Marks the prime strawberry harvest season.
Buck Moon (July): Recognizing the new antlers on bucks.
Sturgeon Moon (August): Named after the abundant sturgeon fish.
Corn Moon (September): Signifying the corn harvesting period.
Hunter’s Moon (October): Commemorating the hunting season preceding winter.
Beaver Moon (November): Reflects the time when beavers are busy building their winter dams.
Cold Moon (December): Evocative of winter’s chill.
In addition, there are a few additional names for Full Moons that commonly make their way into public conversations and news.
Super Moon: This term is reserved for a Full Moon that aligns with the lunar perigee, which is the Moon’s nearest point to Earth in its orbit. This proximity renders the Full Moon unusually large and luminous. For a Full Moon to earn the Super Moon tag, it should be within approximately 90 percent of its closest distance to Earth.
Blue Moon: A Blue Moon is the second Full Moon in a month that experiences two Full Moons. This phenomenon graces our skies roughly every 2.7 years. Though the term suggests a color, Blue Moons aren’t truly blue. Very occasionally, atmospheric conditions such as recent volcanic eruptions might lend the Moon a slightly blueish tint, but this hue isn’t tied to the term.
Harvest Moon: Occurring closest to the autumnal equinox, typically in September, the Harvest Moon is often renowned for a distinct orange tint it might display. This Full Moon rises close to sunset and sets near sunrise, providing extended hours of bright moonlight. Historically, this was invaluable to farmers gathering their produce.

See the 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival schedule cubes, with times and stages
Fans of the fest can now start planning who'll they see when the festival opens in a month
- Jon Batiste, left in purple, performs in the crowd gathered in front of the Festival Stage at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Friday, May 5, 2023
-
The 2024 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival's schedule cubes, with performance times and stage assignments, are posted online at the festival's website.
Fans of the festival can now start planning their daily itinerary and making decisions about who they'll see and who they'll miss.
The cubes are typically unveiled exactly one month before the festival's opening day at the Fair Grounds. The 2024 Jazz Fest opens on Thursday, April 25, for the first of its two four-day weekends.
On Tuesday, the festival's producers held a press conference inside the Fair Grounds grandstand to officially roll out the cubes and reveal other details about the 2024 festival.
See the full Jazz Fest cubes here
That festival will feature the Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Chris Stapleton, Neil Young & Crazy Horse, the Killers, Anderson.Paak & the Free Nationals, Queen Latifah, Hozier, Earth, Wind & Fire, Vampire Weekend, Fantasia, Greta Van Fleet, Bonnie Raitt, Heart and Widespread Panic, among many others.
Jon Batiste, the Revivalists and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, all of whom have achieved national stardom, are among the hundreds of native New Orleans and Louisiana acts that make up the bulk of the festival lineup.
The 53rd edition of what is officially the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival presented by Shell will celebrate the music and culture of Colombia on both weekends. Colombian musicians, cultural displays, parades and cuisine are part of the expanded programming around the festival’s Cultural Exchange Pavilion.
Jam band Widespread Panic, a veteran of many previous Jazz Fests, is scheduled for the opening day, April 25, as are the Beach Boys and Stephen Marley. That day is this year’s “locals Thursday,” for which Louisiana residents may buy as many as two tickets for $50 apiece, with no additional fees at the gate that day.
Otherwise, at-the-gate tickets are $105 plus fees. Single-day tickets for May 2, aka Rolling Stones Thursday, are sold out, as are all second-weekend multi-day and VIP packages that include May 2.
Second-weekend three-day packages, good for May 3-5, are still available for $270 plus fees at www.nojazzfest.com.

The Art of Blending class will run three times daily from April 25th through May 5th alongside a
dedicated Traveller Whiskey lobby sample station and extended visitor hours for post-fest visits
NEW ORLEANS, LA (April 17, 2024)
Who: The Sazerac House, the home of cocktail history in New Orleans, is partnering with Traveller Blended Whiskey, a new blended whiskey made in a collaboration between Grammy award-winning artist Chris Stapleton and Sazerac’s Buffalo Trace Distillery
What: In celebration of Festival season and the melodious mix of music that takes over New Orleans, the Sazerac House is launching limited-time only tastings and experiences to share the art of blended whiskey. Inspired by Traveller Whiskey, the Sazerac House will welcome guests for “The Art of Blending Experience” as well the Traveller Tasting Experience, a dedicated Traveller Whiskey sampling station in the first-floor lobby. These elements, combined with extended hours to welcome post-Jazz Fest, pre-late show guests, mark a new phase of offerings for the Sazerac House—hosting exhibits tailored to special, only-in-New Orleans celebrations of music and memories.
The experiences will include:
Extended Festival Season Hours: Nothing ends a day at the Fairgrounds better than cold air-conditioning and a refreshing cocktail, and the Sazerac House will be welcoming in guests after Jazz Fest is over for the day and before they head out to late-night shows with extended hours for the Traveller Tasting Experience and the lobby gift shop, where guests can purchase everything from festival finery to their favorite spirits, all in one convenient downtown New Orleans location just steps from the Jazz Fest shuttle stops.
The Art of Blending: Using a top-secret selection of whiskeys from Buffalo Trace Distillery, guests will be guided through the whiskey blending process by Sazerac House experts, ending with their own personalized blend alongside a reveal of the beloved whiskeys they’ve been working with. A true five-sense experience, the Art of Blending Experience primes the guests for a multi-sensory adventure in New Orleans, whether they’re heading to the Fairgrounds or to an after-hours show.
Traveller Tasting Experience: In celebration of the launch of Traveller Whiskey, the Sazerac House will host a special, fully immersive, Traveller tasting experience for guests to sample the delicious flavors of Traveller Whiskey.
Where: Sazerac House
101 Magazine Street
New Orleans, Louisiana 70130
When: Extended Festival Season Hours: Traveller Tasting Experience and Gift Shop Open until 10:00 pm each day from April 25th to May 5th, 2024. Expanded tour hours on Monday, 4/29, Tuesday 4/30 and Wednesday 5/1 with final tour starting at 5:30 pm.

Traveller Tasting Experience: Daily from April 25th to May 5th during Sazerac House open hours.
Why: Just as disparate notes come together to make beautiful music, many flavors come together to make delicious spirits, and this series of classes and tastings and expanded opportunities to enjoy Sazerac House this season are exciting ways to experience blended whiskey in a new way while enjoying festival season in New Orleans.

French Harpist Claire Le Fur Performs on May 5
METAIRIE – Claire Le Fur, French harpist, will perform at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 5, at the East Bank Regional Library, 4747 W. Napoleon. Metairie. This event is free of charge and is open to the public. There is no registration.
Le Fur will lead a master class for local harpists at 12:15 p.m., also at the library.
Claire Le Fur, French harpist, studied at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris with Micheline Kahn, Marie-Claire Jamet and Catherine Michel and received an advanced diploma as a concert performer. She is pursuing a concert career, while also teaching at the Municipal School of Music of St. Raphael.
In 1993, Le Fur created a Caribbean Music festival on the French Island of Martinique, titled "Days of the Harp," bringing together harpists from different cultures, as well as other musicians, such as flutists, guitarists, clarinetists, violinists and vocalists. The “Journees de la Harpe” Festival takes place each year in November.
In 1992, Le Fur recorded her first solo harp CD in Caracas, "French Composers of the 20th Century", in homage to her masters. She regularly performs French Creole traditional music with her quintet “Les Alizés” (Trade Winds Quintet), composed of musicians from France, French Guyana and the French Caribbean. She likes to mix the harp with other artistic disciplines such as cinema, theatre, poetry, floral art, etc, to create shows in unusual and natural places.
Franck Bilot, a clarinetist from French Guyana and Sissi, a French Creole drummer from Martinique will perform with Le Fur. New Orleans/North Shore Celtic Harp Ensemble also perform.

The 2024 Bayou Boogaloo poster reveal is here, and it’s nothing short of magical!
Dive into “Beneath the Surface: Bayou Boogaloo” — a captivating visual journey set on the enchanting Bayou St. John, where art and music come alive in the most extraordinary ways.
Join us in celebrating the legacy of New Orleans’ culture through the eyes of our talented artist, Lillian Aguinaga Art Purchase yours today: https://thebayouboogaloo.myshopify.com/.../official-2024...
Full artist statement: “Beneath the Surface: Bayou Boogaloo" depicts characters celebrating the transformative power of music and art on Bayouk Choupic, also known as Bayou St. John. The energy emanating from the trombone player pours into the bayou waters, flowing throughout the creatures and plants before returning to the atmosphere. As this energy passes through each character, it evolves into something new, symbolizing how art and music can uplift, transform, and unite individuals from diverse backgrounds. This highlights the significance of music and art in New Orleans’ culture. The trombone player draws inspiration from New Orleans Musician and Educator, Ashley Shabankareh, while the plants and animals featured are native to Louisiana waters. Alongside references to Bayou St. John’s history and culture, such as the music tree and vèvè on the sunken vehicle, there are also hidden symbols representing the Wu-Tang Clan. Can you spot them? In addition to the title “Beneath the Surface” being a nod to GZA, many of the characters are lovingly named after Wu members: AlliGZA, Method Bassman, Old Dirty Crawfish, Naekwon the Nutria, Inspectah Toad, Rza the Razor Moccasin, Pelladonna, and Lotusface Killah.”

Since then, the Tigers have won 450 contests in Death Valley, which has been home to two Heisman Trophy winners, four national championship teams, and 12 SEC title-winning squads.
Included in the celebration are several upgrades to Tiger Stadium, including a new videoboard and lighting system, as well as other upgrades designed to enhance the game day experience. Other events and celebrations will be announced throughout the year.
The 2024 home schedule features several marquee matchups, including home contests against Oklahoma, UCLA, and Alabama. Information on the full 2024 schedule and season tickets will be announced in the coming weeks.
One of the most legendary stadiums in all of college football, Tiger Stadium has been called “the best place in the world to watch a sporting event” by ESPN and “the pound-for-pound king of noise in college football.”
Entering its centennial season in 2024, Tiger Stadium has been a cornerstone of LSU Athletics and the Louisiana community for almost a century, hosting numerous NFL superstars, Heisman Trophy winners, and Hall of Famers since its opening in 1924.
