The board of Unity Windward is inviting you to our last congregational meeting as a church on August 18 at 11:30 AM, after the Alternative Service with Rev. Su Choy.
We will meet by zoom at the same link as for the service. See above.
Current members of the board:
Gloria Hunter at 704-929-6147 or nowchoosejoy@gmail.com
Patty Sutton at 808-421-9412 or unity.sutton@gmail.com
Cynthia Leveque at 515-782-9612 or revcynthialeveque@gmail.com
We will be going over final details related to dissolving the Board of Trustees of Unity Windward, including reporting on our financial status and steps required to complete this transition. This meeting is the last step on this journey. While you may feel sadness about this ending, many meaningful connections between members are taking new form. Rev. Su Choy has been leading an inspiring and popular zoom service on Sundays. Some classes and the Friday Women’s Breakfast are continuing. Whether Unity Windward is a church or a study group, or remains, as a close circle of friends, the things that we all like to do together are continuing.
To set up a study group requires two things. The first thing is to have a leader who will do the study group paperwork for the initial application and ongoing annual reporting. The leader will need to train with Rev. Glenda Walden. The paperwork is short and attached to this. The second thing is to have two people who will be responsible for setting up a bank account for the study group and managing the finances. We already have one person who is willing to do this and we are holding in prayer that another person will be willing to also.
When the board receives a written statement signed by the two people that will take over the finances and the study group paperwork signed off by someone who will lead the study group, then the meeting on the 18th will be a discussion and vote by the membership about whether to move into the study group by the team proposing to set that up. If the congregation votes for the study group, then the board will approve the bank balance to go for the Unity Windward Study Group via the two people who are assuming responsibility for the study group finances. The final paperwork for the church dissolution and the study group application will be forwarded to Unity worldwide. This transition will be approved by UWM and the board will transfer the money to the study group. The board would like this paperwork by Friday August 16 so that we can review it before the meeting on the 18th. If the requirements are not met then the church dissolution paperwork will go to UWM with a check for the balance of accounts of Unity Windward.
A study group can be established any time after the dissolution of the church. But to keep the Unity Windward bank balance some volunteers need to set up a new account and the board will transfer the money.
If you have any questions or just wish to brainstorm with one of the board members, feel free to contact us. You may also reach out to Rev. Glenda Walden, Evolving Ministries Coordinator for Unity Worldwide Ministries at 816-524-7414. If you wish to ask more about this process, she is our liaison with UWM and she’s aware of our circumstances and will be happy to talk with any congregant.
We would like this meeting on the 18th to include some celebration of what Unity Windward has meant to all of us and what is emerging out of the changes that are happening already. We appreciate everyone’s love, thoughtfulness, prayer, and sincere consideration throughout the process we’ve been going through no matter what happens.
Sincerely,
Patty, Gloria and Cynthia
