THE FUTURE OF UNITY WINDWARD

Invitation to the Steering Team for Unity Windward 2024.

Unity Windward will be going forward with a new form of leadership with many of the same leaders and an open space for you, personally to contribute your ideas and dreams.

We will still be part of Unity Worldwide Ministries.

We will still have Celebration Services.

We will still have Ministers and Licensed Unity Teachers and Unity Students and friends from all over contributing to our fellowship.

We are letting this building space go at the end of April 2024.

We are planning on meeting via ZOOM and at various places in town.

In our official relationship with UWM: We agree that two people to be responsible to send a report on our activities to UWM every six months.

We agree that a financial team will be set up to oversee money management. This group will be run by consensus and use UWM Spirit Group guidelines.

Unity Windward will still be operating as Unity Windward and will post updates on our website and also in this newsletter.

"You are the Resurrecting Christ"

Reverend Catherine Burton is a newly Licensed Unity Minister serving at the Unity Church of Hawaii, and, along with Susan Choy, is in the Unity Ministerial Program to become Ordained as a Unity Minister. Catherine discovered Unity in the 1980’s while she was living in Seattle, Washington during her Internship for becoming a Clinical Psychologist. Her love of Unity’s Metaphysics and Practical Spirituality added to her 25-year practice as a Clinical Psychologist. She has also served as an Adjunct Faculty Member, teaching Systems Theory in the Whole Systems Design Master Program at Antioch University as well as teaching Undergraduate Psychology at University of Hawaii West Oahu and Graduate Psychology at Chaminade University. Because of articles she wrote on the Psychology of World Peace, Socially Responsible Investments, and the new Earth-based Economics, Catherine was asked to be one of the five people to help start the Green Movement in the United States in 1984 as acknowledge on Internet Reports. Now, 40 years later, she sees this as the time where these leading-edge ideas are coming more into the main-stream and transforming our culture, both personally, collectively, and spiritually. Her sharing with us today is inspired by this great sense of transformation taking place.

RHYTHMS OF UNITY: FREE THE FIRE! DRUM CIRCLE

Led by Gong & Yoga teacher Su Choy, this fiery drumming fiesta will unleash the fervor of the wild Divine in you, opening up doorways to maximum creative potential. 

Your drum journey includes:

1. instruction on basic - intermediate rhythms

2. pranayama (breath-work) applied to rhythms for maximum energy/chakra clearing

3. rhythmic affirmations/chanting for empowerment

4. games, song, and dance for sheer joy and fun!

Please wear loose, comfortable clothing, and bring plenty of water, as the drumming can be quite an aerobic workout. Though Su will be leading with a djembe drum, all drum types and instruments are welcomed.

THE FIVE HINDRANCES TO SPIRITUAL AWAKENING

When we’re unaware of the five hindrances, they tend to take over and cloud the mind, preventing us from seeing clearly and making wise choices. The resulting state of poor discernment leads to unskillful actions, further impeding our ability to proceed on our spiritual path. The good news is that, once we’ve identified the five hindrances, we begin to notice how they negatively impact our behavior and overall well-being. Then we are no longer bound to their seductive power, and can freely move forward on our journeys of awakening.

MINDFULNESS MONDAYS MEDITATION

Is meditation a mysterious practice for you? Is meditation a precious practice which you consider priceless? Someone once said that there may be as many types and forms of meditation as there are people. “Maybe there are as many definitions of spiritual awakening as there are people who have had them.We've begun a series of meditation practices on Mondays that are introduced, led, or facilitated by numerous people from a variety of fields. Come to consider what type, form, or method of meditation best suits you. 

Join us at Unity Windward on Monday evenings at 6:30 in the Sanctuary, where we’ll gather to consider practices to benefit your life through the practice of meditation. Meditation has been shown to reduce stress, reduce anxiety, reduce memory loss, increase mood, increase centering in love, and increase self-awareness. Available for a love offering.
