What’s That? Embracing Culture, Food, and Friendship with Karen Chan
In this new episode, Dr. Dan interviews Karen Chan, a food blogger, attorney, mom, and founder of the new Gloo Books, an LA-based independent book publisher. Gloo Books’ first title, What’s That? -- written by Karen herself – is a story about a child who brings a lunch box to school only to discover his lunch looks very different from his classmates. What follows is a heartwarming story about how food reflects who we are and how the diverse meals we eat can bring us all together.
Dr. Dan welcomes writer Sophie Brickman to discuss the timely and provocative topic of parenting and technology. Based on her book Baby, Unplugged: One Mother’s Search for Balance, Reason, and Sanity in the Digital Age, this episode will explore how technology infiltrates every single aspect of raising children today, give parents helpful advice to navigate the digital landscape, and encourage parents to trust their judgment.

"This is the tension that a lot of first generation kids feel: that you don't feel Asian enough, but you don't feel American enough... For me, it's a very conscious choice with my parenting to introduce those elements... of my background and my culture... and making sure [my son] has those elements."
