Summer with the Library Kick-off Celebration

Join us for music, snacks, and fun as we kick off Summer with the Library 2024 at Alpenglow Park in Bend on Saturday, June 1 (10:00 a.m.–noon). Ian and the Oopsies will perform, and the GlinWood Fae will be on hand to share magic, treasures, and enchanted bubbles. Several community organizations will join us to share activities and community information. Free and fun for the whole family! We have additional Summer with the Library events happening in neighborhood parks all summer long; check out the schedule here. Also coming up in June: Summer with the Library at Three Rivers Elementary, Saturday, June 22, 10:00 a.m.-noon.

Groundbreaking: Central Library at Stevens Ranch

We recently broke ground on the new Central Library at Stevens Ranch, and construction is now underway. This dynamic building, which is being constructed to meet LEED Gold standards, will allow us to increase the number of books and other items available to people throughout Deschutes County. View a short video of the groundbreaking on our YouTube channel, and learn more about the building on our website.

The Sunriver Library: Opening this Summer

Remodeling and renovation work on the Sunriver Library is moving right along, with a reopening planned for late August. To be the first to know when a date is set, be sure to sign up for Sunriver Library Updates. The library’s renovation is creating a bright and open space with new (and more) meeting and tutoring rooms, an all-new children’s area and discovery space, a cozy fireplace and reading area, and a flexible community gathering space. To learn more about the Sunriver Library project, visit our website.

Beyond the Books: Explore More with a Discovery Pass

You can check out books from the library, of course, but did you know you can also check out museum and trail passes? Discovery Pass features passes to local attractions, including the High Desert Museum, the Deschutes Historical Museum, the Oregon Observatory at Sunriver, and the Sunriver Nature Center. You can even check out a Forest Service Wilderness Pass starting June 15. Availability is limited; to check availability and reserve a pass, log in with your library card number and PIN here.

Resource Spotlight: Book Clubs

We have hundreds of book club kits available for book club groups to check out. All you need is a library card and you can check out a kit for your club. Each kit comes with 10–12 copies of the book in a handy carrying tote with a reader’s guide—plus, kits can be checked out for up to two months. Explore the vast selection on our website. Kits are holdable and can be picked up at your library location of choice. Be sure to visit our Book Clubs page for more resources for your book club. And if you’re looking to join a book club, we offer several each month at various locations.

Next Staff In-Service Day: Thursday, June 13

Libraries are closed the second Thursday of the month to allow for a full day of staff training and education. This in-service day consolidates late-openings that had happened on various days each month at all library locations and provides time for staff training in areas like customer service and library processes. Thank you for your patience as we work to build a library system that grows along with Deschutes County.
