Summer is here, but hunger and homelessness do not take a vacation. The risks of dehydration, heat exhaustion and sunburn are very real for people without a home. Because of you, we are open year-round providing essential services to individuals in need. From a safe, cool place to sleep at night to a nutritious lunch with a break from the heat, our guests count on us each and every day. I hope you’ll make time this summer to create hope for someone in need – volunteer for a dinner shift, support Tour de Llama and pray for God’s continued blessings on this Ministry.

 - Jan Kelly, Executive Director Samaritan Ministries

Please join us in welcoming Jaleeza Tyson, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and our newest addition to the Samaritan Ministries team.

Jaleeza's new position aligns with our strategic plan of helping to transform lives and make homelessness non-recurring. We recognize that mental and behavioral health challenges are a significant barrier to housing and prolonged homelessness can lead to mental distress and substance abuse.

Jaleeza will help our guests reimagine their future through access to essential community resources like housing, employment, benefits, and mental health services.

Jaleeza shares, "I am excited and honored to be a part of the Samaritan Ministries team. I was born and raised in Winston Salem, so it is important to me that I do everything I can to give back to this community." Jaleeza counts herself lucky to be in the same environment as the people she will be working with. "I'm in THEIR space so it will help me be more attuned to what is going on."

Jaleeza holds a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from NC State University and a Masters in Social Work

from UNC-Charlotte

Call your friends, grab your bikes, and prepare for Tour de Llama 2024 at Divine Llama Vineyards on June 22

We need your support for this important summer fundraiser! On average, summer donations are 18% lower, but sadly, hunger doesn't take a vacation.

Every dollar we raise empowers Samaritan Ministries to provide nutritious meals at the only Soup Kitchen in Forsyth County, shelter from the heat for 70 men, and support for Project Cornerstone guests in substance abuse recovery.

Congratulations to Jim Graham! He is a winner of the 2024 Forsyth County Governor's Volunteer Service Award and The Bronze President's Volunteer Service Award!

For more than 18 years, Jim has dedicated himself to enhancing the lives of those without homes, pouring countless hours into his commitment to volunteering.

His journey with Samaritan Ministries began with joining his church community (Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church) for a night of service and over time he began volunteering on a regular basis.

Jim tells us, "Before coming to Samaritan you couldn't pay me to clean up dishes, wash pots and pans, or go on grocery store runs. Now because of the work I see Samaritan doing in our community, I volunteer gladly to do those things".

Every Tuesday, Jim is joined by his wife, Beth, and they volunteer side by side, bringing their shared dedication to bless our ministry by giving back.
