TGP Summer Youth Employment Program Kick-Off

More than 20 interns from the Summer Youth Employment Program kicked off their summer with a Job Readiness Boot Camp. Students had fun interacting with animals from the Simple Sparrow Care Farm, one of the work sites.

SYEP students have now begun their 8-week summer jobs, and we know this is going to be a great summer! Thank you to these great work sites for partnering with us to provide Georgetown high school students with their first job experience:

News from the NEST

TGP NEST Empowerment Center Open House

We had many reasons to celebrate at our NEST Empowerment Center Open House last month. We wrapped up another fun-filled, successful year at the NEST and enjoyed a special presentation of the NESTlings reading their original poems. We also got to give a big thank you to Ms. Bebe who stepped down from her role at the end of the school year. We wish her all the best!

We also want to thank our friends from San Gabriel Presbyterian Church who helped to make another NEST celebration special. Pictured is Rev. Bill Pederson with George and Barbara Hejtmanek. They work so hard to provide wonderful food and gatherings for our celebrations at the NEST. Thank you!

Meet Brigid Cooley,

TGP NEST Empowerment Center Coordinator

We are excited to announce our new TGP NEST Empowerment Center Coordinator, Brigid Cooley! She will make a wonderful addition to our team. Here are a few words from Brigid:

I am thrilled to be joining The Georgetown Project as coordinator for the NEST Empowerment Center -- a program I became acquainted with while volunteering and facilitating poetry workshops for the NESTlings. My professional background is in journalism, with past positions including staff writer at the Williamson County Sun. I've worked with students in many capacities throughout my life, with my proudest being through my role as one of the co-founders of the St. Mary's Musical Theatre Camp, a summer theatre program operating out of St. Mary's University in San Antonio (my hometown). I look forward to growing with the NEST program and providing vital services to Georgetown youth.
