Hello Camp Jeanne d’Arc community,

The first couple weeks of camp have had all the camp fun we could ask for – sunny Fourth of July festivities, our first Fleur de Lis recipients, Sunday theme days, name game winners, motor trip, and more! This summer update is here to break it all down for you:

Fourth of July.

Want to know how we celebrate the Fourth of July at Camp Jeanne d’Arc? Read our Independence Day blog post here. You will hear about the perfect hillside waterslide technique, festive traditions, and what exactly the campers of yore would shout atop horses to celebrate the holiday!

Fleur de Lis Recipients!

Each week a select group of campers are recognized as Fleur de Lis recipients. The Fleur de Lis honors are given to campers who exemplify the Jeanne d’Arc values of faith, endurance, courage and confidence. Congratulations to week one recipients: Mary Grace Fargis, Carola Rivera, Margarita Marcial del Valle, Alex Wilson, Florence Cameron, Brooke Vielkind, Emilia Carrion, and Phylicia Jonah-Goody! And week two recipients: June Oshinsky, Loreta Cruz, Renata Figeuroa, Esther Vera, Paula Diaz, Sloane Klauer, Maizy Melin, Lucia Espinosa and Maddie Baumgard!

Our First Alum Workshop.

We were so excited to welcome CJDA alumni Leila Molahan to camp this week to conduct, “Mindfulness and Meditation,” a three-day workshop where campers explored a variety of contemplative practices that served to deepen campers' understanding of the world that they live in and their ability to navigate successfully within it. Leila was a pleasure to have at camp and campers will be sure to remember this experience. Thank you Leila!

Name Game Winners!

After only a week into camp we had four campers who successfully named the first and last names of all campers and counselors! The Name Game is not only a way to win points for your Les Pucelles or Jolis Coeurs team but it creates a family-like camp experience where everybody knows your name!

Motor Trip to Burlington.

Campers left Chateaugay Lake to venture into Burlington, Vermont for the first half motor trip! We toured the Ben and Jerry’s ice cream factory, indulged in some delicious ice cream flavors, and walked around the vibrant downtown Burlington area. And while campers were super excited to get out of camp for the day, they were equally excited to return to their favorite place on earth where we settled in with an abbreviated campfire back at CJDA!

Les Pucelles and Jolis Coeurs Captains.

The Camp Jeanne d’Arc motto of "Building Strong Girls" is alive and well! One way we do this is by fostering leadership opportunities. Campers vote on Les Pucelles and Jolis Coeurs team captains to lead their respective teams in team games, camp spirit activities, and more. This year’s captains are: Callie McCartin for the Jolis and Madeline Baumgard for the Les – Congrats!

New Tradition: Spark Night!

Gathered at Camp Cormier around a bonfire, we held our second annual Spark night! This is a new tradition started by the Owl cabin last year, where campers contemplate something they want to change or let go of in their lives and write it on a piece of paper. They come by cabin and throw that “unwanted thing” into the campfire and then throw a handful of sugar into the fire, which causes a beautiful spark. As they do this, they say “spark new beginnings” as they replace that old some with something new and special. They leave to find the handmade sparkling star hanging in trees, made by the Owls.

As always, be sure to follow us along on Instagram or Facebook. And if you are in the area, give us a shout and join us for lunch in the Hearth!

All the best,
