J is a new student at Partners In Learning. He came to PIL through his developmental therapist, who was seeing him in the home weekly. J has a very rare condition called Soto- Sydndrome, which means that his body grows 4x faster than the average child. J is one year old, and he is the height of your average 3 year old. Soto-Sydndrome comes with significant developmental delays, hair loss, hearing and vision impairments, and epilepsy. He is 19 months old and is just learning to pull up to stand, however, he can crawl to explore his environment. There is significant delays in speech and cognitive development as well.
Staff at Partners In Learning are trained on seizure protocol and trained on how to administer rescue medication should a seizure last longer than 3 minutes. Partners In Learning is the only center that has the ability to make classroom accommodations for J such as modified seating, thick motorcycle pants for crawling on the playground. The staff are also trained in how to use hearing aids, medical equipment and proper ways to feed J. Without Partners in Learning J would not be able to attend an early education program and get the foundation he needs for future success!
