Adaptive Scouting Committee

To Help Make Scouting Accessible

A new Council Committee for Adaptive Scouting has been organized to ensure Scouts and Scouters are aware of how to include youth with any type of need and that they have access to all Scouting Programs and activities. The Committee will provide education, support, and resources to accommodate Adaptive Scouting needs. Also, the Committee will assist the Council and Units in ensuring that their facilities have the necessary tools to accommodate Adaptive Scouts.

Among goals, the Committee actions will include:

·      Providing tools and strategies to assist Scouters and Scouts to understand and meet the needs of Adaptive Youth by conducting training, or upon request, counselling for individual units.

·      Providing mediation services for units experiencing issues accommodating one or more Scouts with adaptation needs.

·      Performing outreach to inform parents of Adaptive Needs that Scouting is a viable option for extracurricular activity for their children.

·      Making accessibility recommendations to the facilities and camp committees for both camps and service centers.

·      Creating a page on the Council Website with all forms and resources stored for download in accessible PDF format.

·      Furnish outreach to provide the opportunity and process to start Adaptive Needs Units.
