Each quarter we create a newsletter to update the community on sustainable programs, projects, and events in the City of Long Beach. We invite you to participate and engage in these opportunities to advance environmental stewardship, support local sustainability practices, and create a more livable and resilient Long Beach!

Join us for Ranchos Walk 2024: Step Into the Stream of History to experience Long Beach's urban habitats through this year's water theme! Bring the family along to enjoy this unique urban hike experience that spans between the ranchos! Participants will follow the crest trail that links Rancho Los Alamitos and Rancho Los Cerritos, choosing between the 9-, 6-, or 3-mile hike options. The post-walk celebration at Rancho Los Cerritos will feature music, games and activities, food, and drinks.
Online registration will open in August.

California Climate Action Corps Fellowship
|
|
The California Climate Action Corps (CCAC) is currently accepting applications from Californians (18+) who want to serve as CCAC Fellows for 11 months to mobilize communities through climate volunteer engagement, climate action, and education projects focused on urban greening, organic waste, and edible food recovery, and wildfire resiliency throughout the state. CCAC Fellows earn up to $43,000 in living stipends and money for school for the successful completion of 1,700 hours of service between September 16, 2024 and August 14, 2025.

Upcoming Workshops & Events

Join our team in tending to our beautiful community restoration area! Meet us every second Friday from 3-4 PM at Longview Point in Willow Springs Park and help steward the land by watering and tending to native plants, pulling invasive species, picking up litter, mulching, and maintaining trails.
|
|
|
|
Celebrate the Summer Solstice with an early morning stroll at the park! Join our last Willow Walk of the season on Saturday, June 22nd, from 9:00 - 11:00 AM. Following our guided walk, participants can support the park's restoration efforts by tending to habitat.
|

Come plant 17 trees with us in the Coolidge Triangle neighborhood on June 28th from 9:30-12:00 PM! Learn about the benefits that street trees provide to the community.

S.T.R.O.N.G Beach Summer of Opportunity
|
|
The City of Long Beach has launched its Summer of Opportunity initiative, a collective impact approach focused on fostering positive development among Long Beach youth while simultaneously addressing youth violence. The initiative features three key areas of focus – S.T.R.O.N.G. Beach (Standing Together to Reach Our Next Generation), which will expand summer youth opportunities; violence prevention and suppression strategies; and community engagement and activation – to further support and uplift local youth.
The City is thrilled to offer a summer filled with a variety of family-friendly programs, activities and events for residents of all ages. With so many options to choose from – like youth recreation programs, summer reading challenge, concerts in the park, sports camps and art classes – there is something for everyone to enjoy. The City invites the community to engage in hundreds of free and low-cost activities to fill the long summer days and make this summer a memorable one for you and your family!

City of Long Beach Named Number One Leading Fleet in U.S. and Canada by Government Fleet Magazine
|
|
Long Beach Fleet Services was named the number one fleet in the U.S. and Canada by Government Fleet magazine. Long Beach was chosen for its exemplary leadership among staff, customers and the community; its efficient and competitive operations; overcoming challenges; and for its vision and direction.
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Long Beach Bike Share allows riders to pick up a bicycle at any bike share hub and return it to any hub or public bike rack within the city's service area. The current program offers 650 bicycles and 112 hubs throughout the City. Riders can select from various pricing options including prepaid, pay-as-you-go, or monthly and annual memberships.

Tree Planting & Mulch Program Updates
|
|
|
|
The Office of Climate Action & Sustainability has planted 481 trees and made 185 mulch deliveries this year! So far this fiscal year (October 2023 - September 2024), the Office has planted 598 trees and made 272 mulch deliveries!
