THE IRS WANTS YOUR EMPLOYEES TO PERFORM A "PAYCHECK CHECKUP"

The IRS is encouraging everyone to take a few minutes and perform a "paycheck checkup".  With the new tax law changes, it is important that everyone make sure that their federal withholding is being withheld correctly for each personal situation.  As employers and small business owners, you should guide your employees to ensure that their payroll deductions are setup properly.  The link below will access a short video from the IRS as well as a Withholding Calculator to help estimate 2018 tax liability and make sure that withholding deductions are set up for the correct withholding amounts.  I recommend that your provide this link to your employees and let them review and access the Withholding Calculator App.  They will need to provide frequency of payment, wages to date as well as taxes withheld to date and the amount of tax withheld on the most recent paycheck as well as other pertinent tax information.  Should anyone need to change withholding instructions, and adjust withholding amounts, you can provide a W-4 Employee's Withholding Allowance Certificate for them to complete or they can pull the form straight from the Calculator page.  Let us know if you have a particularly challenging employee issue.

SALES TAX LAWS ARE CHANGING AND YOU MAY BE AFFECTED

The Sales Tax Laws are rapidly changing.  If you collect sales tax and ship your product to other states and locations, you will probably be affected.  If you are reporting internet sales you are definitely going to be affected.  While the Supreme Court decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair Inc. has paved the way for other states to begin collecting sales tax on internet sales, only eleven (11) states have changed their laws to date.  This list is expected to grow rapidly.

Be sure to contact us or at least begin reviewing your state website to make sure if/how the tax laws will affect you.

NEW SERVERS COMING TO RIGHT NETWORKS!

For those of you who participate in the Cloud platform at Right Networks, we received notification in June that the servers at Right Networks will be upgrading the server platform to Microsoft Windows Server 2016.  The process began in mid-June and is continuing throughout the summer.

From Right Networks:

What's changing?
  • We are upgrading our Hyper-Right environment from Windows Server 2008 R2 to 2016
  • You may start to see the new modern interface, and then revert back, that is normal, and part of our phased approach
What's staying the same?
  • No change to how you log in and do your work
  • A similar Windows desktop feel, with a more modern interface
When will this be happening?
  • Changes will start in mid-June and will continue throughout the summer in phases to ensure that there's no disruption to your experience
Why we are doing this:
  • Improved performance and stability
  • Users can experience Microsoft's Server 2016 technology

I understand that we will get back some of the advanced features from our previous cloud hosting service and I'm looking forward to the changes.  I spoke to some of the Right Networks representatives at the Scaling New Heights Conference in June and it is still too early to know when we can expect the new platform on our server but I will keep you posted.

As always, you are encouraged to reach out to Right Networks tech support.  The link below will get you to a page where you can log directly into the Right Networks Helpdesk.  Right Networks also offers 24 x 7 email support at support@rightnetworks.com or telephone support 24 x 7 at
888-417-4448 (ext 2).  Don't hesitate to contact me if you are unable to resolve your issues.
