When summertime kicks off in the U.S., we have an influx of visitors make the journey to our site. It's always exciting to have guests stay and serve alongside us. From families and individuals to large groups from churches and universities -- making a trip to Malawi will enrich your life and it can change your perspective, redefining what is truly important. Read on to hear about the inspiring experiences of our most recent visitors!

CLI Chairman, Kevin Talley and his wife, Lesa bring a team to CLI at least once a year. This summer they brought a group from one of our partnering churches, Church Project Winter Park in Colorado. They immediately got to work making things happen that are crucial to what we do. The team had carefully planned a full itinerary, making sure to reach as many people as possible during their visit. They spent time in the villages, repairing 5 broken water wells where the people were struggling without access to clean water. They also took the opportunity to share the love of Christ with hundreds of people from those villages. They visited the sick and rejoiced with new mothers who had just welcomed new babies at our hospital. Beyond that, they also helped paint the recent expansion block of classrooms at Child Legacy’s primary school. Their help was so appreciated!

Lesa reflected, “We have enjoyed spending time with the people in Malawi during our stay–we had time to interact with the women at the CLI Hospital mother’s shelter and meet new moms in the hospital wards. The people are so lovely; we prayed and danced together.”

It was also wonderful to have Chayce and Teagan, a mother and her daughter, come to visit our site. They loved spending time with the mothers and new babies in our hospital ward. During the visit, they were able to personally pray with 7 babies born on the same day. Josophine, one of the new mothers, thanked the visitors for praying with them and for giving them clothes and soap for their babies. She shares, “Today I have felt so much love. For someone to come all the way from America and pray for my child is a big blessing. May God bless your family and all the donors that support the work of CLI.” Chayce was touched too, she said, “It’s life changing to see such great care over these mothers and their babies. I was blessed to share special moments with my own daughter, as we went around to pray over the mothers and their sweet babies. A core memory for my daughter and myself.”

Clean water is essential to survival and is a major component of our work. Prioritizing safe drinking water is something that has been integral to the heart of CLI since the organization began in 1987. The effort gained great momentum in 2007, when Jeff and Karen Rogers were trained in the well repair process back in Houston, Texas. They took this skill into the heart of Africa, going around the nation of Malawi from village to village with a locally trained team, repairing wells, teaching health and hygiene, and sleeping in tents along the way to restore safe water to the people. Now, 17 years later, Child Legacy has repaired over 5,600 broken water wells, benefiting over 10 million Malawians!

One of the many villages we care for is called Mandala. After a number of those living there were getting sick from bad water, the village chief came to CLI to ask for help getting the well working safely.

A grateful villager shares, "Child Legacy International’s CEO, Dr. Jeff Rogers, and the well repair team has repaired a water well today that supplies over 100 families in the village. It was broken a year ago and our people were using contaminated water as an alternative. Today, CLI has brought back the smiles to families who were struggling to get clean water to live healthy lives. We are so thankful.”

One of our favorite things to do is to provide employment for amazing people. Megrina Gaisi has worked at the CLI Hospital as an Attendant since June 1st, 2017. Her days are spent doing a number of important tasks to keep the hospital running smoothly. A primary role of her position is making sure that the hospital remains clean. She helps maintain a sanitary environment by mopping, scrubbing, and dusting the floors and surfaces, but also does things like escorting patients to wards and preparing instruments for sterilization.

Megrina shares, “I’m so happy working at CLI. Working at CLI has helped my life in so many ways…I built a house, I bought land where I do farming, on top of that, I have 5 children and I’m able to pay their school fees. The year I started work at CLI, my first child got selected to secondary school, I managed to pay his school fees and now he is a policeman.”
