We have hired a new company, Arrow Security, to staff our public safety program. The 10-person team of Public Safety Officers (PSOs), which includes some new and familiar faces, started this week. These uniformed, well-trained officers are keeping a watchful eye on Lincoln Square seven days a week; they are a reassuring and welcoming presence and serve as a deterrent to crime. They are the eyes and ears of the NYPD, calling for assistance when necessary and helping the public by answering questions and giving directions. They also report street conditions, count pedestrians, and even find lost property that we return to their rightful owners. Make sure to say hello when you see a PSO.

Traffic Advisories from DOT

Alternate side parking (street cleaning) is suspended on Wednesday and Thursday, June 12 and 13, for Shavuot. Meters remain in effect. Click here to download the NYCASP calendar.

Need to know about upcoming bridge and street closures? Visit DOT’s webpage for the weekly traffic advisory and weekend traffic advisory.

It’s Festival and Parade Season

In the warmer months, streets are often closed due to local festivals, parades, and fairs.

On Saturday, June 8, there will be a single-block street fair scheduled on the east side of Broadway between W 60th and W 61st Street from 10:00am until 6:00pm. DOT does not have any details about traffic regulations or street closures as of today.

On Sunday, June 9, the National Puerto Rican Day Parade will take place from 44th Street to 79th Street along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. For street closure information, visit DOT’s weekend traffic advisory. Expect delays on Sunday.

Visit Manhattan Community Board 7’s website for a list of events scheduled for the Upper West Side, or find a full list of NYC street fairs here

Build the Block Meeting on June 13

NYPD’s 20th Precinct holds Build the Block meetings to allow the community to meet with the precinct’s Neighborhood Coordination Officers and discuss public safety concerns. The next Sector A meeting will be held on Thursday, June 13, at 6:00pm at Dante Park (Broadway and W 64th Street). For accommodations, please contact P.O. Ali at (929) 294-5312.

Restaurants: Explore DOT's Dining Out NYC Marketplace

NYC Department of Transportation offers an optional online, searchable directory of companies that provide design, fabrication, installation, removal, storage, and/or leasing/rentals to support compliant outdoor dining cafes. This resource may serve as a one-stop shop for restaurants looking to build roadway or sidewalk cafes. It is not a requirement for the Dining Out NYC program. The list of companies will grow, and the City aims to include products and custom designs in the near future. Restaurants may choose companies or products at their own discretion. Visit the Dining Out NYC Marketplace here.

David Rubenstein Atrium Closure

Due to The Dream Machine Experience, part of Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City, the Atrium will be closed on Friday, June 7 (4:00pm to 10:00pm).

Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist Reopens

NYCHA is reopening the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) waitlist, which has been closed for nearly 15 years. Applications will be accepted for six days, between this past Monday, June 3, and 11:59 pm next Sunday, June 9. Learn more about Section 8 eligibility here.

Required Signage in NYC Businesses

The State and City require various types of signs to be posted in bars and restaurants. Make sure you have all required signs posted by using this checklist from NYC Small Business Services and NYC Hospitality Alliance. By July 1, all NYC employers must also post the required multilingual Know Your Rights poster where employees can easily see it. Read more about worker rights here.

Complete This Survey for a Chance to Win

Department for the Aging (NYC Aging) is conducting a Service Needs Assessment Survey. This will help them better understand the needs of older New Yorkers and their caregivers. NYC Aging will use the information for program planning, advocacy, and better understanding unmet needs. All responses are anonymous, but you can provide contact information if you’d like to be entered into a drawing for a chance at a giveaway of a $50 gift card at the end of September 2024. Find the survey and more information here.
