2024 Field Day - BE TRUE TO YOU!

Over 200 campers at the Teen Center participated in Field Day activities inspired by the theme “BE TRUE TO YOU.” Throughout the day, students learned about the importance of physical and mental wellness. This event would not be possible without our partners: Stamford Youth Mental Health Alliance, Kids Helping Kids, Fairfield County Sports Hall of Fame & Youth Foundation, and the City of Stamford. THANK YOU!

A special shout out to Mayor Caroline Simmons, Representative Jim Himes, and Former NBA all-star Allan Houston for hosting our Field Day opening ceremonies.

Zac Foundation Brings Water Safety Education to Yerwood

We partnered with the Zac Foundation this summer to teach over 100 children aged 5-9 essential water safety skills. Studies show that black children between the ages of 5 and 19 are two to five times more likely to drown in a swimming pool than their white peers. Through programs like the Zac Foundation and our free IM Swimming program, the Club provides youth with experience and knowledge to increase their safety around pools and open water. Equipped with essential skills, they now stand as ambassadors for safety, enhancing their well-being and that of their peers and families.

Keystone Club Attends National Conference in Atlanta

Eight students from our Keystone Club, a prestigious national leadership program for teens, recently traveled to Atlanta to attend the annual Keystone Conference. Under the theme "United and Brave: Get Loud," the conference featured keynote addresses by renowned speakers like Dr. Bernice King, daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Members engaged in enlightening breakout sessions designed to build leadership skills and delved into a college and career expo to explore potential paths for their futures. Between sessions, students had opportunities to connect with peers across the country in the conference game rooms or on the roller skating rink. Read more here.

Announcing our Youth of the Year: Tatyana Fields

Meet Tatyana Fields, the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford’s 2024-2025 Youth of the Year. Tati is a rising Senior at Westhill High School who has attended the Club since first grade. She is an exceptional leader and role model who is committed to advocating on behalf of the Club and our youth. "My goal is to empower our kids, push them beyond their potential, and create a nurturing community where they feel valued and supported on their journey to success." We are incredibly proud to have Tatyana represent our Club as the Youth of the Year.

Meet Our Counselor: Jada Stephenson

As part of our "Meet the Counselor" series, we're thrilled to introduce Makeda, lovingly known as "Jada" around the Club. A Stamford native, she has been a member and employee at the Boys & Girls Club since childhood. Learn more about Jada here.

Fostering a Love of Reading All Summer Long

We are proud to participate in Stamford Cradle to Career's Summer Literacy Initiative. During Summer Camp, reading is an integral part of our daily activities. From welcoming guest readers to challenging students to a read-a-thon, our goal is to help foster a love of reading and to help avoid the "summer slide.”

Club & Community Partners Offer Free Athletic Clinics

The Boys & Girls Club of Stamford partnered with Roscco and Stamford Cradle to Career to bring several free youth sporting events to Stamford. Dozens of young athletes attended our football and soccer clinics in Lione Park. There were drills, games, and a LOT of fun! Together, we're creating opportunities for young athletes to improve their skills, learn teamwork, build camaraderie, and stay active!

CT’s Social Equity Council Grant Helps Implement the Future Ready Program

Thanks to a grant from the CT Social Equity Council, the Boys & Girls Club of Stamford implemented the Future Ready Program, empowering youth in Stamford for success beyond school. The program follows a 10-step process that includes self-reflection, identifying career paths and educational opportunities, touring colleges and potential employers, resume and college essay workshops, extracurricular activities, and volunteerism. From career exploration to financial literacy and workforce development to STEM activities, the Future Ready program is preparing our youth for a bright future!

Community Fund of Darien Grant Will Help Enhance Academic Enrichment Opportunities

We are so honored to have been named a grant winner by the Community Fund of Darien alongside 35 other incredible nonprofit organizations in the area. The impact of your generosity is truly life-changing to our youth and our community.
