Hops & Heart Event a Success

Loveland Bradenton Participant Janele Steals the Hops & Heart Show

With knock-out performances by Loveland Theatre Manager Luke McFatrich, accompanist Michelle Kasanofsky, and Friend of Loveland Shantel Norman, who serenaded our beloved Board Chair Laurie Huebner for her May 17 birthday, Janele had some hard acts to follow. But she crushed it by sharing her gratitude for Loveland Bradenton Program Manager Agina Fry and her staff and helping all the Hops & Heart celebrants dance the night away. With more than 50 community leaders, participants and their families, board members, volunteers, and friends in attendance, Loveland Bradenton's first Community Engagement event at Motorworks was a huge success. We can't wait until the next one! Photos

Davin Advocates and Interacts

Davin used to be resistant to being a part of activities and would stay in his program room for a long period of time. Recently, he has become more willing to participate in program activities. He has learned to advocate for himself and interact with both staff and peers.

Kudos, for a job well done, Davin!

Spotlight on the Arts

Meet Jessica Baird

Visual Arts Instructor

Meet Jessica Baird, our new Visual Arts Instructor. Jessica’s role at Loveland Center is to create a visual arts program for our participants at the Venice, Bradenton, Port Charlotte, and North Port locations.

When Jessica was asked what drew her to Loveland, she said it was because she wanted to work for a nonprofit, while incorporating creativity. Jessica stated that Loveland Center is a one-of-a-kind place. She felt that from the start, it was clear the employees and participants were very special and kind. Jessica shared that the smallest act of kindness can make a participant’s day. Her favorite aspect about working with the participants is making them happy by helping them express their creative ideas. Jessica said, “watching a participant come out of their shell when we talk about a project they are interested in, is very rewarding.” More...

Loveland Creates Program Updates

Loveland Creates, our performing and visual arts program, is off to a great start! We have many talented artists and entrepreneurs. They can’t wait to make their business plans, produce items, and display their creations in the upcoming Loveland Store!

Beautiful Birdhouses Created by Loveland Participants

Lori and many other participants worked with Visual Arts Instructor Jessica Baird to create stylish homes for our avian neighbors. Jeweled tiles of all colors adorned the houses and were the perfect manipulatives for fine-motor craftwork.

Tie-dyed crayon letters will be coming to the Loveland Store (pictured bottom right). These whimsical upcycled crayons will make great gifts, as they come individually packaged. Participants like to spell their names with the letters, and watch all the different shades come through as they color.

People of Determination by Alaa Elassar, CNN

Bassma Mohamed stares at her reflection in the giant mirror hanging on the studio wall. Dressed all in black except for the purple on her glasses, she is focused and unwavering in her determination to follow her ballet teacher and perfect every plié, relevé and tendu.

Her mom, wearing a denim skirt and green headscarf, is huddled with a group of other mothers in the doorway, watching with pride as she jumps and twirls.

When Bassma [center] meets her mother's eye, she winks at her and smiles. Photo credit: Heba Khamis for CNN

There is nothing out of the ordinary at this small ballet studio in [Alexandria], Egypt, except many of the dancers have special needs, including Bassma. More...

Wilson-Wood Foundation Funds Vans

The Wilson-Wood Foundation's grant of $25,000 in August 2022 enabled Loveland to begin satisfying the demand of its Venice and North Port Adult Day Training program, and it is also ensuring that our community members with intellectual and developmental disabilities are safe when traveling to and from community events, our center, and for after-program-hours opportunities.

Participants ride in comfort, knowing they will reach their destination safely and on time. Thanks to the Wilson-Wood Foundation, our new vans enable more participants to be out in the community. The vans are especially helpful for individuals who can transfer out of their chairs but need a vehicle low to the ground to transfer into.

Loveland Venice participants and staff arrive in style in new vans purchased with a generous grant from the Wilson-Wood Foundation. Tom Faessler and Susan Wood, who run the foundation, greeted our grateful crew ready to show off the new vans and are pictured far left.

Loveland prides itself on its continued quality control measures taken across all of its programs. All transportation staff are CPR/First Aid-certified and all vehicles are maintained regularly and equipped with first aid and other life-saving equipment. Loveland’s existing fleet can accommodate wheelchairs, transfers, and passengers who have other diverse needs. More...
