Summer Butterfly Doorhanging!

Dear Ruthanna,

Summer Butterfly Doorhanging!

My beloved Ruth finally got enough time to make a new seasonal doorhanging. We use it to grace our entryway. In an unusual move, she used someoneels' pattern. The pattern is the "Social Butterfly" by Lolla Botique.

The pattern was too large to fit on our front door, so Ruth cut it down to 1/4th size. Because the pieces were so smal; it took longer than usual to make this masterpiece.

I was struck by the multitude of beautiful colors. This was certainly enhansed by the use of batik fabrics. It also makes our entryway quite beautiful.

It reminds me somewhat of Ruth's best selling pattern - "Fly, Fly Away," shown below.

The two butterflies are quite different. The top one is made using traditional piecing methods. The bottom one is made using the newer "Twister" method of piecing.

I love the colors on the one at the top, but the bottom one appears to have the texture of butterfly wings. Also, being from California, the bottom one appeared similar to the beautiful Monarch Butterfly's coloration layout.

It is interesting to me that even though both pictures are of the actual quilts, and the "Twister" method of construction makes the bottom quilt actually, physically "bumpier," but that the batik fabrics of the top one appear more three dimentional in depth.

Which one do you like best?
