Welcome KVMR's New Board Of Directors President

David Shield!

David Shield Circa 1972 at KHNC

KVMR's preceding Board President & host of Harmony Ridge, Brian Terhorst, receiving a Gold Record in honor of his leadership while passing the baton to incoming Board President David Shield.

David Shield's earliest memories include Saturdays at KIRO AM 710 in Seattle, where his father, writer and broadcaster John R. Shield would bring his kids, giving their mom a break. Watching the teletypes print the news feeds that his dad would rip and read, smelling the ink and the hot vacuum tubes, filled David with the magic of radio which never left him. In high school, the electronics class turned out to be a thin disguise for a radio station - KNHC FM.

"Most students spent all their time in sports or photography or drama. I spent all my time in the electronics classroom and the radio studio, taking the last city bus home to Capitol Hill after the station sign-off at 10PM."

David's professional career began at Intel in 1977 in microprocessor design, earning 4 patents over his 45 year career in semiconductors and tech. Community radio and music were never far away - David helped start the KNHC Board of Directors in 2004. At about that time, David started listening more closely to KVMR, and in 2021, he joined the KVMR Board of Directors.

David has two sons, four grandchildren, and enjoys travel, hiking, gardening, and restoring British/European cars. "Leading the KVMR Board of Directors and serving this wonderful community is a privilege."
