Welcome to our 5th Anniversary season at Studio North Dance Arts! Thank you for making us a part of your family. Our fifth year promises to be full of learning, fun and, most of all, dance! I am happy to see all of the returning to smiles and to meet so many new ones.
I am excited to welcome back our continuing instructors, Ms. Kimberly Ciola and Ms. Makayla Dowling, as well as welcome Miss Sara Blanchette on board.
Here's to a wonderful fall - lace up those dancing shoes and let's get moving!

Helping Your Little One Off on the RIght Foot
Parents, whether you have had experience with dance or not, it is natural to wonder about how your little dancer will do in dance class for the first time. This is especially true if dance class is the first time your preschool child will be separated from you for a structured activity.
We hope the attached article will give you an idea what to expect of your child as they take this step toward independence.

Thrill the World
Ever want to dress up like a zombie and just dance? Then we are planning an event for you! We are currently working with Downstreet Art coordinator, Michelle Daly, to bring "Thrill the World" to North Adams!
For those who have never heard of "Thrill the World", it is an annual event paying tribute to Michael Jackson, where as many people as possible around the world perform "Thriller" simultaneously. The videos to learn the dance are available on YouTube and we will be arranging a few get togethers for those wanting to practice in person. While there is no age minimum, due to the nature of the choreography as well as the scary costumes, we recommend no younger than 8 (of course, parents should use their judgement).
Our time zone is scheduled to perform at 6:00pm EST and will be followed by a Zombie Crawl for participants ages 21 and up. Look for detailed information on our area event soon:

Congratulations to members of the 2016-17 Studio North Competition Team. Students on this year's Team include: Karleigh Beth, Rachel Bisson (co-captain), Aliyha Eichorn, Elisha Lesure, Amanda Moon, Haley Roberts, Ayla Senecal (co-captain), Alexis Taylor, Isabel Thompson, Alexis Toomey, Amaya Vince and Lilly Wirtes.
Coach Tia Vasiliou returns to head the team, and additional entries will be choreographed by Ms. Makayla and Ms. Jessica.
We are excited to be entering more pieces this year, including 5 solos, as well as to be attending more events. The Team will be running fundraisers throughout the year to help defray the costs; we encourage all Studio North families to join in in showing their support.
Competitions are a great way for our students to expand their knowledge of dance, improve their technique and gain valuable feedback from dance professionals from around the country. Good luck, Team!

FIRST STEPS MONTHLY OBJECTIVE
September: Class Etiquette and Format
An important part of our First Steps classes (Creative Movement and KinderDance) is introducing our youngest students to dance and the dance classroom. Each month, a Classroom Objective is utilized to guide programming and we encourage parent
s to be a part of the learning experience by talking about class with their child, practicing
and reinforcing ideas presented in class.
September's Classroom Objective is Class Etiquette and Format. We will focus on how to be in class, including proper behavior and classroom etiquette, as well as introdu
ce the general structure of class (where to go, when to go there, etc). Look for information to be sent home each month to help you be an active part of your child's love of danc
e!
