INDIANA EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP ACCOUNT

Learn Where INESA and Medicaid Waivers Overlap

Students with Medicaid waivers may also apply for INESA funding

Hoosier parents of K-12 students with disabilities who have a Medicaid waiver can also apply for the Indiana Education Scholarship Account program.

While INESA covers qualified education expenses like non-public school fees, extracurricular, vocational, and camp programs, the Medicaid waiver may cover expenses like adult day services, live-in care, and case management.

Yet there are also services that may overlap, which Medicaid may cover in part and INESA dollars can help to fill in the gaps. Those services may include behavioral support services, therapies outlined in your child’s special-education plan, and transportation.

Parents of K-12 children with disabilities who qualify for a Medicaid waiver and INESA, should check with their INESA coordinator and Medicaid case manager to determine which services are covered.

Got the Medicaid Waiver? No Problem!

The Medicaid waiver does NOT negatively impact the INESA, nor does the INESA negatively impact the Medicaid waiver. Here’s a sample list* of what each program covers, and where they may work together to help parents afford other accommodations for their child with disabilities.
