Since her first year at Georgetown, Jordan Kramer (C’22) has studied the effects of using combination therapies to treat cervical cancer as a research assistant with Richard Schlegel, MD, PhD, in the Center for Cell Reprogramming.
Biology of Global Health and Spanish double major Grace Keegan (C’21) -- mentored by GUMC faculty -- has been an advocate for health equity on and off Georgetown’s campus. She plans to continue her work in the field after earning her medical degree from University of Chicago.
For nearly 20 years, the School of Nursing & Health Studies has hosted the Undergraduate Research Conference. It has grown over time to include student researchers from across campus and other universities.
Spring Faculty Convocation
Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia honored Kenneth J. Kellar, PhD, professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, with a President’s Scholar-Teacher Award at the Spring Faculty Convocation on April 29. In addition to recognizing Kellar, GUMC faculty members were honored with Vicennial Gold Medals in recognition of 20 years of service to the university.

Submitting COVID-19 Vaccination Documentation and Summer Testing Protocol
Georgetown’s Chief Public Health Officer, Dr. Ranit Mishori, provided information about the University’s COVID-19 testing protocol for the summer and invited all members of the GU community to submit documentation of their COVID-19 vaccination through the GU360 mobile app or website. For the 2021-22 academic year, the University will designate a mode of work for staff and AAP colleagues as in-person, telework or hybrid. Staff and AAP colleagues will receive notice of their mode of work by June 30, 2021. All employees, except those with a telework agreement to work outside of the local area in place, should return to a residence in Washington, DC, Maryland or Virginia and be in commuting distance of their on-campus worksite, no later than Monday, August 2, 2021, regardless of the mode of work for the coming year. As of May 1, D.C. has opened 11 high-capacity, walk-up vaccination sites where no appointment is needed. The walk-up sites will be in addition to the pharmacies, clinics and health care providers that are administering the vaccines citywide, which operate their own scheduling systems. Walk-up site locations, days, hours and available vaccines will be listed on www.vaccinefinder.org.

Support for Our Community
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a devastating impact around the world particularly now in India and Brazil. Also this last week, dozens were tragically killed during a religious festival in Israel. Support resources are available to help our community cope with these tragedies. Mental health support for faculty, staff and students can be found on the Every Hoya Cares web page. Also, Georgetown community members are invited to attend virtual religious services.
