StreetWise is like a home where the door is always open

While StreetWise provides a range of services to empower individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty, it also serves as a home base for many. We are a stopping point on the journey for individuals seeking to improve their lives and achieve greater stability and self-sufficiency.

StreetWise is like a home. Vendors work at StreetWise as long as they need or want to. As life brings changes, vendors may leave for a period, only to return when they need another opportunity to earn immediate income.  The door is always open! Individuals are welcomed back into the StreetWise community, no questions asked.

For others StreetWise is a virtual home. Many who are street homeless or not stable housed use the StreetWise address for a consistent, safe place to receive mail and store important documents.

StreetWise Magazine Publisher Dave Hamilton named "Supervisor of the Year"!

StreetWise magazine Creative Director/Publisher Dave Hamilton was named "Supervisor of the Year"! by the Chicago Semester.

He was honored at the Chicago Semester Gala on April 21 for his commitment to mentoring future journalists.

The Chicago Semester program takes students from smaller collages around the US and allows them to live and work in Chicago for one semester. It exposes the students to different people and cultures that they may not be exposed to at home and helps them develop and expand their futures.

StreetWise has worked with the program for when procuring journalism interns for over 8 years.

A Bittersweet Farewell to Our Journalism Intern Emma

Speaking of Chicago Semester...

This week, we say good-by to our journalism intern Emma. Emma came to StreetWise through the Chicago Semester program (the one where her supervisor Dave was just named Supervisor of the Year!).

Emma is originally from Colorado, but attend school at Central College in Pella, Iowa. Her enthusiasm and passion have been infectious, and it has been a pleasure getting to know Emma this semester!

Check out Emma's article on Chevalier - the Forgotten Composer and now the subject of a new movie out in theaters now.

We wish her all the best!
