ERS works with cohort of systems on teacher residency programs and school design

Rural Louisiana school systems are struggling with a teacher shortage, and as a result, uncertified or out-of-field teachers lead 21% of their classrooms. This fall, the state awarded grants to a cohort of rural systems to create teacher residency programs that will focus on job-embedded professional learning . These systems are working with ERS to design these programs and redesign their schools to create the conditions for program success.

New results show more high-quality schools in 2017

In less than a decade, Denver Public Schools (DPS) doubled the number of high-quality schools and narrowed the achievement gap with the state to three percentage points in English language arts. DPS' journey demonstrates how much progress a school system can make when it strategically balances urgent action with the time required to do it right.

District leaders use ERS analysis to narrow in on next steps

If Los Angeles Unified School District had hit its attendance goals last year, it would have received $20 million more in revenue from the state - and thousands of students would have gotten more instruction. With the support of the LA Unified Advisory Task Force and an ERS analysis of attendance trends and promising practices from peer school systems, LAUSD is taking steps to combat this issue - as the first step towards using resources more strategically system-wide to ensure every student succeeds.

"What I took away [from ERS' presentation at the Learning Forward 2017 Annual Conference] is that having a consistent academic message is key. Your backbone is the curricula. Your professional learning must be anchored in the standards and linked to instructional practices. If they are not, you may not be able to move forward and make change."
- Irene Parisi, Asst. Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Professional Learning, Greenwich Public Schools

What We're Reading...

WHY NOW?
Because our children deserve more than a few great schools.

Ensuring college and career readiness for all students, especially lower-income students and students of color, requires redesigning school systems to enable new ways of organizing schools for student and teacher learning. School System 20/20 is our vision for transforming school systems so every school succeeds for every student, because of the system - not in spite of it.

Education Resource Strategies (ERS )  is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming how urban school systems organize resources - people, time, and money - so that every school succeeds for every student.
