Urge Your U.S. Representative to Oppose the SNAP/Food Stamp Bill that would cut $40 billion from the program!
Later this week the House is expected to vote on the House Republican Leadership's nutrition-only Farm Bill (The Nutrition Reform and Work Opportunity Act) that cuts $40 billion over 10 years from SNAP. These cuts would not only lower benefits for many Pennsylvanians (in addition to the cuts already scheduled to occur in November due to the expiration of the ARRA boost) but would make many who are struggling to feed themselves outright ineligible for the program.
Help us protect those in need by protecting SNAP! Join a nationwide SNAP Call-In Day today to urge House members to vote "NO" on this bill. House Democrats have already agreed to vote NO, so we need to reach out to House Republicans. Remind your member that SNAP/Food Stamp Program has had bipartisan support for decades for a reason--it works. (See "Stop Playing Politics with Hunger", written by former Senators Bob Dole and Tom Daschle in the L.A. Times.) Message: As a constituent, I urge you to vote NO on the House Republican leadership's nutrition-only Farm Bill to cut $40 billion over 10 years from SNAP. This bill would increase hunger in Pennsylvania and America. Call-In Number: 866-456-8824 - Special thanks to our friends at Feeding America for the toll-free number.
