Steve Alten January Newsletter
To My Family, Friends, & Fans:

Happy New Year! I hope 2023 fulfills all of your hopes and dreams, heals any health and financial challenges, and that happiness far outweighs any sorrows… and, what the heck – that come early August you find your way to your local movie theatre and enjoy MEG-2: The Trench.

My goals are as follows:

GOAL 1: Finish LOCH-3: Heaven Lake and get it to our printer by April.

I want to thank all those who purchased copies-in-advance four years ago come next month. When I wrote The LOCH (2003 – 04) it took me about 15 months; VOSTOK (LOCH 2) about the same. So why so long with LOCH-3? Normally, when I start planning a novel I will write a very basic outline with a description of the main characters – protagonist & antagonist (hero & villains) and helper characters. All of these I had from Book 1 & 2. The basic plot of Heaven Lake takes us back to a month after Book 1 ended, with Zachary Wallace (the hero) gradually being blamed for the collapse of the Great Glen’s (Loch Ness) economy. Zach’s father, Angus (who is capable of doing anything) is thunderstruck when a fellow Templar Black Knight announces that he has been in touch with a Black Ops scientist who can custom design a lifeform by adding DNA. Naturally, Angus takes control and…

That’s the B story. The A story is Zach on a book tour for his autobiography, The LOCH. This is slower paced journey until he arrives at Heaven Lake -- allowing me to go wild with the C story that takes place BEFORE Vostok but leads into it.

That’s Part 1 of 4 and it took me to December to write the first hundred pages – only to find I had painted myself into a corner (translated: I never planned on a C story characters. I was also not happy with the prose. I had started writing LOCH-3 right after my previous releases (UNDISCLOSED & MEG: GENERATIONS) without a break (I usually try to separate them with a screenplay). The prose was stale because I was burned out. It was about that time (mid-December) when I awoke one early morning with the plot to what would evolve into WHERE SEA MONSTERS ROAM. That began one of the most creative and unexpected projects I have ever undertaken that was being fast-tracked by the COVID pandemic. When I finally returned to LOCH-3 about 13 months had passed, but I felt ready to return to the novel – almost. First, I had left myself a note to RE-READ VOSTOK!!!

Wow. There were so many small plot points I had left for book 3 but had forgotten – things that had to mesh with LOCH-3. And just like that, I was out of the corner, creating a C-Story with a new set of some of the wildest characters I have ever written to entrap my regulars. I wrote Part 2, then had to go back to Part 1 to adjust the set-up, which altered part 2 and 3… and now you know what took place over the last 4 years.

WHERE AM I NOW: Parts 1, 2, & 3 are locked down. Half of Part 4 is written, now I am just grading the road for a smooth transition into an amazing finale of the A, B, and C stories that will push the novel over 600 pages – far and away my longest. From a cost stand-point, that scares me a bit, but I won’t think about that until the first draft is done and edited. When will that be? The only accurate answer I can offer is – when it is done—but I’m pushing for March-April 2023.

GOAL 2: Be cancer-free in 45 days to 90 days on the cancer extract GC-6000.

If I wrote what I have been thru over the last 4 months as a novel few would believe it. At the end of the newsletter (after the Stooges) is a link to a Press Release that went out Thursday am. It details most of what has happened, and I am 100% positive it will work (it’s already proven to work – check out testimonials on the videos at GoneCancer.com). This is important because people are dying of Glioblastoma, pancreatic, and other cancers – and this can be the game-changer… or it can be ignored.

2 ways you can help me bring this natural cancer treatment to the world;

A. Go to GoneCancer.com and send an email to President Biden to check out the website which will immediately aid CANCER MOONSHOT.

B. Sign-up for a CREATE A MEMORY offering.

The cost of the GC-6000 extract combined with warehouse fees to preserve the equipment is stretching our family’s already stretched budget, so I was looking for something that I might be able to offer you that was very unique – only several of you beat me to it.

There are CELEB sites that offer a variety of famous (and semi-famous) actors, comedians, athletes, etc. to wish the buyer anniversary or birthday wishes, charging between $35 to $900+.

While I am certainly happy to do that, I have something quite unique to offer everyone who has been a character in one of my novels – and a final chance to be in LOCH-3: Heaven Lake!

GOAL 3: (THIS ONE IS HUGE!)

Last Sunday night (EST), I had a zoom meeting with the three extremely talented co-owners of a fairly new F/X studio. They are HUGE MEGheads, young and driven, but have been unable to land an F/X gig with a major studio because… well, they push the boundaries of R-RATING (in both directions). One of their 45 second “shark attack sequences featuring a serious sick-looking version of Snowflake & Layla actually gave me a nightmare (they are begging me to let them design the cover of MEG: PURGATORY).

They told me they LOVE LOVE LOVE the structure of www.SeaMonsterCove.com, and REALLY WANT to completely re-shoot with their F/X and actors the web-TV series WHERE SEA MONSTERS ROAM. Cool!

They showed me FOUR absolutely mind-blowing virtual giant shark Hard PG-17 attack experiences they had created (1 surface, 1 aquarium, and a day & night underwater) that together easily would cost seven figures. Then they got down to serious business. (NDA signed). (I have permission to share the basic terms of the “WAGER.”

Just to even qualify, SeaMonsterCove.com must DOUBLE the number of members in February (1000), March (2000)) and April (4000) somehow they had all our stats).

OUR WAGER:

If their four TEASERS ADDED TO SeaMosterCove.com in June lead to an increased membership TIMES TEN, I award them 51% of the company and we become partners. If their four TEASERS lead to an increased membership (less than) TIMES TEN, I award them 49% of the company and we become partners.

IMPORTANT: Any current SMC member who joins before February 1, 2023 will be exempt from all future membership price increases (unless they cancel) so JOIN ASAP.

Enjoy the rest of your update!

Writing Coach CONRATS:
Congrats to Writing Coach client RANDE GOODWIN on receiving an offer from Greenleaf Publishing to publish his first novel, The Witchfinder's Serpent, which will be in stores next October in time for Halloween. Greenleaf handled distribution for The LOCH when it came out in hardback... 17 years ago... wow. Rande becomes the tenth Writing Coach client of mine to be published and I am proud of having had the opportunity to work with ALL TEN... hmm.
Belated congrats to WC author Maria Sutro whose Dark Associations series can add IPBA Benjamin Franklin's Suspense of 2022 award to its growing cache of awards.

LIVING TIPS:
Seven Foods that can prevent cancer
Not only are a lot of the foods on this cancer diet list good for your health in general, but the American Cancer Society recommends certain fruits or vegetables themselves. Moreover, you should generally be eating five servings of fruits and vegetables a day in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Why not add some anti-cancer diet foods to the list of benefits?

Recipe Of The Month:
Grilled Kale with Ricotta & Peaches
Grilling kale leaves over a hot fire makes them crispy and delicious. Tossing them with fresh peaches, a simple vinaigrette and pairing with creamy ricotta transforms them even further - into what may be one of our favorite summertime salads.

Ingredients:
3 fresh peaches
½ c high-quality olive oil, divided
¼ c red wine vinegar
1 T honey
2 tsp minced fresh thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
18 large curly kale leaves
1 16 oz container whole milk ricotta

Wash and pat dry kale leaves. Brush both sides of the leaves lightly with ¼ cup olive oil and set aside. Add remaining olive oil, red wine vinegar, honey and thyme to a medium mixing bowl and whisk to combine. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Wash, pit and thinly slice peaches with a serrated knife. Add the peaches to the bowl of vinaigrette and toss to combine. Set aside.

Grill the kale leaves over a medium-hot charcoal or gas grill, turning once, until they begin to turn slightly charred and crispy around the edges, about 2-3 minutes. Transfer the cooked leaves to a work surface and season lightly with salt and pepper. Trim the and discard the stems and tear the leaves into smaller pieces.

To serve, stir the ricotta to loosen it and spread along on the bottom of a serving platter. Toss grilled kale with the peaches and vinaigrette, check for seasoning and arrange over the ricotta.

Joke Of The Month:
A drunk staggers into a Catholic Church, enters a confessional booth, sits down, but says nothing. The Priest coughs a few times to get his attention, but the drunk continues to sit there. Finally, the Priest pounds three times on the wall. The drunk mumbles, "Ain't no use knockin'. There's no paper on this side either."
