If you are 70 and 1/2 years old or older and have an Individual Retirement Account (IRA), you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to Birmingham First. Qualified Charitable Distributions may be used to meet your annual Required Minimum Distributions, reducing your tax bill all while supporting life changing mission and ministry.
While the age at which you must withdraw money from your IRA is increasing, you can still make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (a QCD) directly to Birmingham First beginning at age 70 and ½. Up to $105,000 per person may be distributed from an IRA directly to a qualified charity each year. For more information, contact the Rev. Shawn Lewis-Lakin, Associate Pastor for Planned Giving, at slewis-lakin@fumcbirmingham.org or 734-717-8947. You can also visit our planned giving website by clicking the button below.

Staff Update & Employment | |
In September, Amy Holton will be stepping down as Student Ministries Coordinator in order to spend more time with her family and to discern other ways to live out her calling as a disciple of Jesus Christ. This decision is her own, and it is one that she has communicated with church staff and SPRC leadership in an atmosphere of mutual blessing and support.
Amy has graciously offered to remain on staff through the summer and into the beginning of fall, if necessary, to assist in the transition. This summer, she will still lead the Youth Mission Trip to Henderson Settlement and will participate in Choir Camp. Moving forward, Birmingham and Berkley First will remain the church home of Amy and her family.
While we are grateful for all the many gifts that Amy has brought to our church in this role, we are also excited to begin the search for a new Student Ministries Coordinator. This part-time role (20 hours/week) is instrumental in raising up 6th-12th graders to know, love, and serve God in this world.
Closer to the time of her departure from staff, we will coordinate an event to celebrate Amy’s leadership among us. In the meantime, if you know of someone who is interested in stepping into the role of Student Ministries Coordinator, please email me at zdunlap@berkleyfirst.org. Gratefully yours in Christ,
Zack Dunlap
