Worship this Sunday at 10:00 a.m.

This Sunday we continue to explore our heritage, as we conclude our “Rooted” sermon series looking at John Wesley’s advice on money. Yes, I know the perils of preaching on money! Yet as you read scripture, money and possessions are a common theme. By one count, there are more the 2300 verses in the Bible on money, wealth, and possessions. The reason for this is that it is a topic that impacts all our lives.

For those raised in the Methodist tradition, Wesley’s three rules on money may be familiar:

Gain all you can.

Save all you can.

Give all you can.

In Sunday’s sermon, we will explore each of these rules, examining the scriptural basis for each, and how they might apply in our lives. While the three simple rules are easy to remember, there are important nuances to each of them that are worth unpacking. And I look forward to doing this with you.

Plan to join us for worship. Remember that we are on our summer schedule, with one service at 10:00 a.m. We will share prayer, song, scripture (Luke 16:10-15 & 1 Timothy 6:6-20), and the celebration of holy communion.

It will be good to worship together!

Peace,

Pastor Shawn

Pastor Zack preaching

“Rooted: The Use of Money”

Luke 16:10-15, 1Timothy 6:6-10

In the hands of faithful people, money is a wonderful tool. Never is it a worthy goal. Back from Annual Conference this Sunday, Pastor Zack brings a word on the use of money that’s sure to apply to your life. We also will celebrate the joy of baptism with the Niglas family. This Sunday, we ask that you come ready to submit your commitment to Berkley’s first-ever capital campaign: For All. Together, we are creating space for all to feel welcome, safe, and included at Berkley First with individual, handicap accessible, gender-neutral restrooms.

We are excited to welcome Liv Vermane, our Duke Seminary Intern! She is a second year Master of Divinity student at Duke Divinity. Prior to starting at Duke, she attended George Mason University where she graduated with a degree in Communications and Religious Studies. When she's not busy doing ministry work or studying, you can usually find her drinking coffee, enjoying Italian food, or watching the television show, "New Girl." She lives to serve the world by helping others, and oftentimes she finds that she can do this best through her work in ministry! She describes herself as a dreamer, an artist, and a future UMC pastor. She is excited to serve among us here at Birmingham and Berkley First.

We will welcome Liv in worship at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 2 with a special fellowship hour to follow. Please plan to attend worship that day to meet her.
