Pastor Kathy Mid-Summer Schedule

Pastor Kathy will be on vacation from June 27 - July 4th.

Pastoral coverage will be provided by Rev. Linda Lea Snyder, through July 11.

Pastor Kathy will be taking two weeks of renewal leave from July 5-18. If there is a pastoral emergency during the final week, please contact the office or Debra Sawyer or Judy Dobson.

The leadership of the UCC encouraged all churches to grant their pastors two weeks renewal leave this year, given the ongoing challenges of pastoring, and HCC leadership, encouraged by our Staff Relations Group, agreed. The Staff Relations Group explains the renewal leave more fully in the section below.

A Message From Staff Relations

At the beginning of this year, The Staff Relations Group received a letter from The National Conference Ministers of the UCC, recommending that churches consider giving their pastors a two week time of renewal to heal from the unprecedented stresses of recent years.

After prayerful discussions with Pastor Kathy, the SRG brought forth a motion to our church leaders to grant this renewal time. The motion was approved out of care for Kathy and appreciation for her outstanding ministry to our congregation. This will be a time for self-care which will include a ministry retreat.

Pastor Kathy has been a true blessing to our church through these difficult times. This time will help strengthen her so that she can continue giving her utmost devotion to ministering to our church’s missions and people.

A Word From Peace & Justice

Some clarification on the Climate Hope Cards

We made available Climate Hope Cards from the UCC a couple of Sundays ago. We were excited about

them because they were using the art work of the children from Earth Day Sunday school classes. We

expected them to be traditional post cards to be used by members to contact any of their government

representatives about environmental issues that were important personally.

What we got – and we did not notice on opening – was not a postcard that could be mailed. It was written specifically for the EPA to encourage a moral responsibility or our government to protect our ecosystems, encouraging the EPA to set strong pollution standards. The UCC’s process to handle the cards is for churches to collect them and send them to the UCC office where the entire bundle will be delivered to the EPA.

There is still space for individuals to write a message to target their particular

environmental concern. So, we will collect cards at Coffee Hour through July 30 and forward them to the UCC. If you would rather use the card to contact local elected representatives about local environmental issues we will collect those cards as well and Kari and Debra will make sure they get to the appropriate place. For this, just cross out the salutation on the card and write in the recipient you intend. Be sure to state your issue

in the Message line.

Sorry for the confusion.

Scam Emails & Texts

Emails and Texts are often sent, saying they are from Pastor Kathy or another staff member. She (or the HCC staff) will never send out a generic email/text--she'll address it to your name. She will never ask you for money/gift cards over email nor via a text.

Also, any email from Pastor Kathy will always have her signature line on the bottom with her phone number/address.

If in doubt, please contact the church office or Pastor Kathy.

Blankets for Project Linus

For those of you who have been busy sewing, quilting, knitting, or crocheting, we have an new opportunity to donate those handmade items!

We located a national organization that has local chapters called Project Linus (https://www.facebook.com/projectlinussouthwestnewhampshire/). This organization's mission is "to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans". Blankets are given to children in need through NH.

*We welcome all styles of blankets made in child-friendly colors/prints.
*Crocheted, knitted, quilted (100% cotton or flannel), fleece….you don’t have to be an expert!
*Blankets must be NEW, HANDMADE and WASHABLE.
*Fabric blankets can be quilted by machine, hand or tied. If you are tying the blanket make sure the ends are trimmed to 1” and the knots are secure.
*Please do not add any embellishments to the blankets such as buttons that could be swallowed by a child.
*If you are using a no-sew fleece pattern, please be sure to trim off both selvages FIRST. Not sure what selvages are? Ask the clerk who is cutting your fleece to please show you, they’re those odd looking edges at the top and bottom of the piece you have, sort of raggy looking.
*We accept all sizes of blankets. We donate to children, infants through teen years, so any size is appropriate. Baby blankets are typically 36”X36” or 36”X42”, toddler-pre-teen are typically about 40”X60”, and teen blankets are at least 60"X72".

Blankets can be dropped off in the entry way of Hadley Hall.

Thank you for your support of this project!
