The Seventh Sunday of Easter

Parish Notices

May 12, 2024

Happy Mother’s Day: As we celebrate your day, we lift this prayer in honor of mothers near and far. Lord Jesus Christ, even as you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross for us, your mother offered her love and tears; help us in our lives to love, honor and give thanks for our own mothers and the mothers in our midst, pour out your grace on all mothers that they may be examples of all that is true and noble, just and pure, lovable and excellent; for you are gracious O lover of souls, and to you we give glory, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

A Word of Welcome to those of you who are new to Trinity-by-the-Cove or the Episcopal Church! Coffee hour follows each of the services and is held across the street in the parish hall. Our Parish Life Coordinators, Tom Gemmer and Ann Hudon, will be there to greet you. Clergy will also greet you outside of the church following the service; please introduce yourself so that we might fully welcome you.  For those of you attending online, resources for you and your faith journey are on the website. Always feel free to contact clergy or staff.

Children are Welcome at all our worship services. Please pick up a “My Church Bag” from the usher. Its contents are a way to enrich the time children spend in church. We also have a nursery, located across the street, which is available for children 8 mos. to 5 years old during the 10:00 a.m. service. The nursery will be available starting at 8:45 a.m. We are glad that your family is worshiping with us.

A Note About Hospital Visits: If you or a loved one is in the hospital, please call the office 239.262.6581 or email Mthr. Marcella to let us know.

Opportunities for Worship & Music

Morning Prayer on Tuesdays: is a simple time of prayer and fellowship in the Anglican tradition. Join in with a Book of Common Prayer each Tuesday for Morning Prayer at 8:15 a.m. on ZoomIf you have time to stay after the service, Mthr. Marcella has a short teaching on the psalm prayed that day. mdrawdy@trinitybythecove.com

Holy Eucharist with Healing Prayer and Anointing is held each Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.

Opportunities for Formation

Faith-Seeking Journey: For the last session of FSJ, on May 12th, we will meet at 9:00 a.m. We will conclude our year together with a Form of Commitment to Christian Service at the 10:00 a.m. service next Sunday, May 19th.

Children’s Formation: The Catechists will bring the children to join their parents in the church for the Holy Eucharist during the 10:00 a.m. worship service, following the Passing of the Peace and announcements. Parents may pick up a Reserved Seat sign from the catechists at the beginning of our atrium time at 9:30 a.m. to save a spot for your child. We ask that the congregation please welcome the children when they join us during the announcement time.

Daily Devotion Resource: Did you know that Trinitarians can take advantage of a free daily devotional guide called “Forward Day by Day”? We provide these guides for anyone interested. Each day’s writing gives you a meditation with accompanying scripture passages, and a “Moving Forward” question or thought to ponder. The newest issue is for May, June, and July. You can pick up a pocket-size copy or a large print copy in the narthex, the Parish Hall, or the office. Check it out and share with family and friends!

Opportunities for Service

Sunday Flower Delivery is a quiet ministry for our parishioners. Trinity shares our beautiful flowers with those who are in the hospital, in physical rehab, and those who are unable to attend services in person on Sunday. If this ministry of encouragement for our parish family calls you to service, please contact Mthr. Marcella mdrawdy@trinitybythecove.com and she will set you up.

Opportunities for Fellowship

Special Pentecost Coffee Hour: We will celebrate Pentecost, Sunday, May 19th with a delicious treat again this year.... Strawberry Shortcake! If you would like to help prepare (on Saturday morning, May 18th), or serve this special confection on Sunday May 19th at either coffee hour, please sign up on-line or on the poster in the Parish Hall, or let Tom Gemmer or Ann Hudon know.

Men of Trinity Breakfast: The Men of Trinity will meet Monday, May 13th at 8:00a.m in the parish hall. We’ll enjoy breakfast, conversation, and fellowship! For more information and to RSVP, reach out to Robbie Roberts at pgrjr3r@gmail.com. An accurate number helps in our planning.

A Note from Fr. Edward

As I am away from our parish family on sabbatical, I’m mindful of the world around us—our Naples community, the nation, and the world. We hear of wars and rumors of wars and so many sorrows. There are many blessings as well—the Good News of Christ in loving care, peacemakers, and the witness that God is love. There was a Billy Joel song my history teacher had us listen to in High School—the refrain: We didn't start the fire. It was always burning, since the world's been turning. We didn't start the fire. No, we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it. I offer you two prayers for use over the summer—Sunday to Sunday. One for the world, one for closer to home.

For the Human Family

O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

 For Families and Friends

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, we commend to your continual care the homes in which your people dwell. Put far from them, we pray you, every root of bitterness, the desire of vainglory, and the pride of life. Fill them with faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, and godliness. Knit together in constant affection those who, in holy wedlock, have been made one flesh. Turn the hearts of the parents to the children, and the hearts of the children to the parents; and so enkindle fervent charity among us all, that we may evermore be kindly affectioned one to another, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Update from Father Edward

Covering over 100 kilometers (approximately 75 miles) in four days of rain and mud and one sunny day he made it successfully to the end of the Santiago walk! Despite a few blisters and sore muscles, Father Edward feels great. He enjoyed meeting some interesting people along the way and has time to think, and time to "think of nothing". He is so thankful for this time and experience.

Parishioner Colin Edwards captures the beauty and vibrancy of Trinity-by-the-Cove through his photography which can be viewed HERE.
