Faith in Action for a Peaceful World
Dear Beloved Family and Friends of St. Mary's,
Our hearts are heavy once again as we bear witness to another senseless act of violence in the sacred space of a school where children should be safe, nurtured, and free from fear. In times like these, it is easy to feel powerless and overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problem. But as people of faith, we are called to do more than simply mourn.
In the Epistle of James, we are reminded that faith without works is dead (James 2:14-17). Our prayers must be more than words; they must be a catalyst for action. While we turn to God for comfort, we must also ask for courage—courage to be agents of change, to speak out against violence, and to hold one another accountable in creating a world where peace is not just a hope, but a reality.
James speaks powerfully about the responsibility we have to each other: "If a brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, 'Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,' and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that?" (James 2:15-16). In the same way, when we offer thoughts and prayers without accompanying them with action—whether that’s advocating for safer laws, providing support to those affected by violence, or fostering compassion in our communities—we fall short of our calling as followers of Christ.
Our faith compels us to love our neighbors, and this love is not passive. It is an active, living force that drives us toward justice and peace. Jesus said, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God" (Matthew 5:9). In the face of violence, we must rise up as peacemakers, using our voices, our votes, and our actions to push for a future where children grow up without the fear of gunfire.
I encourage each of you to reflect on how we might become co-creators with God in this work. How can we hold ourselves and our leaders accountable for building a world where schools, streets, and homes are sanctuaries of safety? How can we embody Christ’s peace in our everyday lives, even as we navigate a world that seems increasingly chaotic?
Let us be steadfast in prayer, but let us also be equally steadfast in action. For as James tells us, it is not enough to have faith—we must live it.
In Christ’s Peace and Love,
Mo. Allison+

Stay Connected through Bible Study
As the season of Summer begins to wrap up and our dear friends start to head home, let's make sure we Stay Connected through Bible Study!
Have you ever wondered about the differences between the gospels or felt curious about diving deeper into the scriptures? Now is the perfect opportunity to explore these questions in a welcoming and supportive community.
We are thrilled to invite you to join our upcoming Bible study, led by Tracy Rubin, a Harvard Divinity School graduate from the Class of 2012. Tracy has been leading Bible studies for over a decade at her parish in Needham, MA, and this summer, she guided our lectionary study at St. Mary’s. Her wealth of experience and passion for scripture promises an enriching and insightful journey through the Bible.
Starting on Wednesday, September 18th, we will begin our study of the Gospel of Luke—a beautifully written narrative that offers a unique perspective on Jesus. Luke’s gospel is particularly inclusive, speaking to people of all backgrounds, regardless of social standing, gender, or religious affiliation. Many of the stories we cherish about Jesus can only be found in this gospel, making it an essential book for those eager to deepen their understanding of the Christian faith.
Whether you're joining us in person or from the comfort of your home via Zoom, you’ll be part of a nationwide community of learners, all journeying together through this powerful text. Classes are discussion-based, allowing everyone to share their insights and learn from one another.
We offer two convenient times to fit your schedule:
10-11:30 AM or 7-8:30 PM.
If you’re new to Zoom, don’t worry—tutorials are available to help you get started.
This Bible study is more than just a class; it’s an opportunity to build deeper relationships with God and with each other. As we explore the Gospel of Luke together, we’ll strengthen our faith, grow in our understanding, and stay connected as a community, no matter where we are.
If you’re interested or have any questions, feel free to reach out to Tracy Rubin at tgrubin3@gmail.com or 781-856-2125.
To sign up, please contact Ali at office@ccneedham.org
or call 781-444-1469.
Let’s stay connected and continue our spiritual journey together!
A Prayer for our Bible Study
Loving and Gracious God,
We come before You with hearts open and eager to grow in our understanding of Your word. As we embark on this journey through the Gospel of Luke, we ask for Your Holy Spirit to guide us, enlighten us, and draw us closer to You and to one another.
May this study be a time of deep reflection, where we encounter the teachings of Jesus in new and transformative ways. Open our minds to the wisdom of the scriptures, and may the stories we read resonate within us, inspiring us to live out Your love and compassion in our daily lives.
Bless Tracy, our teacher, with clarity, wisdom, and patience as she leads us through this study. May her words and insights encourage us to ask questions, share our thoughts, and grow together in faith.
We pray for each person who joins this class, whether in person or from afar, that they may find in this community a place of belonging and support. Help us to strengthen the bonds of fellowship, knowing that even as we are scattered across different places, we are united in You.
Lord, may this time spent in Your word deepen our relationship with You, shape our hearts in the likeness of Christ, and fill us with a renewed sense of purpose and peace. As we study, let our hearts be open to Your voice, guiding us in all truth and love.
Through Christ our Lord, we pray.
Amen.
Blessings,
Mo. Allison+

To All of our members and friends
What is Stewardship?
Stewardship is the responsible management and care of the resources that God has entrusted to us. It encompasses our time, talents, and treasures, recognizing that everything we have is a gift from God. As stewards, we are called to use these gifts wisely, generously, and joyfully to further God's work in the world.
Why is Stewardship Important?
Deepening Our Faith: Stewardship is a spiritual practice that helps us grow in faith. By giving back a portion of what we have received, we acknowledge God's sovereignty and express our gratitude for His blessings. This act of giving strengthens our relationship with God and deepens our trust in His provision.
Supporting Our Mission: At St. Mary's, our mission is to share the love of Christ, serve our community, and nurture spiritual growth. Your contributions enable us to offer meaningful worship services, provide pastoral care, support outreach programs, and maintain our beautiful church facilities. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a significant impact on our ability to fulfill this mission.
Building Community: Stewardship fosters a sense of belonging and partnership within our congregation. When we come together to share our resources, we create a vibrant and supportive community. Your generosity allows us to host fellowship events, educational programs, and other activities that strengthen our bonds and enrich our spiritual lives.
Extending Our Reach: Through your stewardship, St. Mary's can extend its reach beyond our church walls. We support local, national, and international initiatives that address critical needs, such as hunger relief, disaster response, and educational support. By giving to St. Mary's, you are part of a larger effort to make a positive difference in the world.
How You Can Get Involved
-
Pray: Begin with prayer, asking God to guide you in your stewardship journey. Seek God's wisdom in how you can best use your gifts to serve God's kingdom.
- Give: Consider making a financial contribution to St. Mary's. Your regular tithes and offerings provide the foundation for our ministry. You can give online, or by mail or by collection plate.
- Serve: Offer your time and talents by volunteering for one of our many ministries. Whether it's assisting with worship services, participating in outreach projects, or joining a committee, your involvement is invaluable.
- Invite: Encourage others to join our church family. Share the good work that St. Mary's is doing and invite friends, family, and neighbors to experience our community and worship with us.
Thank you for your ongoing generosity and commitment to St. Mary's. Together, we can continue to grow in faith, serve our community, and make a lasting impact for Christ.
