Women & Finance Pickleball Event: If you are a lady who plays pickleball or, like me, have never played pickleball and would like to learn, our upcoming Women & Finance Pickleball Social is for you. Check out the details below.

 

Save-the-date: Our next mixer is scheduled for July 24th at The Whiskey Factory in Detroit. Watch out for upcoming registration details because space will be limited for this member-only event.

Pro Bono Volunteer Opportunities Available


Advocacy Day

On Monday, April 29th, the FPA of Michigan Pro Bono Committee will be hosting a pro bono event for State of Michigan legislative staffers. During this event, legislative staffers will hear a presentation on a broad overview of a variety of money topics, including budgeting, expense, debt, saving and retirement among other things. At the end of the presentation, staffers will be given the opportunity to sign up for one-on-one virtual meetings with FPA of Michigan volunteers. We are looking for FPA of Michigan members to volunteer to meet with staffers. If you are interested in volunteering to host a one-on-one appointment with a staffer, please click here to complete a short form. Please note, in order to volunteer for this opportunity, you do need to be a CFP® and have completed the FPA Pro Bono Training. Gilda's Club - Cancer Support Community

Speakers are needed for two events coming up at Gilda’s Club locations in Metro Detroit. We have presentations from FPA national, so no pressure to put one together on your own. Presentations will be live and via Zoom for those members who are unable to be there in person. After each event, attendees will have the opportunity to sign up for pro bono one-on-one sessions with our trained volunteers using a QR code. Please contact committee chair Sandy Adams for more information and to volunteer.

WSU SAFE Program for Seniors in Need

We are also seeking volunteers to lead webinars on financial planning and literacy tailored to older adults for the Wayne State University Institute of Gerontology's SAFE program. These webinars are part of their monthly ZOOM series on Financial Gerontology, held the first Friday of the month. If you're interested in presenting, please contact Sandy Adams with your topic proposals. 

**Also email Sandy if you're interested in offering Pro Bono one-on-one consulting sessions to seniors in need, should we be able to offer these sessions after the webinars.**

Internship/Externship Program from Amplified Planning


The Summer Externship is back for its 4th year! If you are looking to hire an intern, this program offers an excellent model to provide your intern with valuable work and real world experience. Amplified Planning now offers a Financial Advisory Firm Toolkit that will provide you with supplemental guides to provide in-house learning experiences for your interns. 


As outlined on the Amplified Planning website, this is how the program works:

  • YOU utilize our guides and tools to set up and map out your interns’ summer internship.
  • YOUR INTERNS spend part of their workdays participating in the 8-week Externship program. They receive a certificate after completing each week’s curriculum, which you may request.
  • YOU can use our prompts to create in-house learning opportunities that complement The Externship and enhance your interns’ experience.
  • YOU ALL have a valuable summer internship experience!
